  ### PRESS RELEASE

![Yanmar YF12e Propulsion](/sites/default/files/inline-images/image_2209.png)Propulsion and fuel cell specialist Yanmar will be unveiling a new hybrid system, the YF12e, in Amsterdam in mid-November, but details are embargoed until then.**Yanmar Marine International (YMI)** has always been at the forefront of fuel-efficient propulsion, and in something of a teaser, the Netherlands-based company has announced the scheduled debut of its all-new diesel-electric hybrid, the YF12e.

With only this tantalizing glimpse of the new engine to go on for the moment, a full reveal will take place on the Yanmar stand at this year’s Metstrade
Specifications remain sketchy, with the full reveal in Hall 1, stand 343, at **Metstrade** at the RAI in Amsterdam, 17-19 November, but the product is expected to build on Yanmar’s considerable experience in the hybrid sector.

According to a very short press release, the YF12e is a *“next generation hybrid-electric propulsion system designed to deliver greater flexibility, exceptional charging efficiency and next-level onboard comfort. Combining diesel and electric propulsion, the system offers boat owners an efficient and versatile approach to powering life on board. The YF12e Hybrid enables zero-emission and near-silent operation in EV mode, and efficient cruising and onboard power generation directly from the propulsion engine. Designed for inland waterway vessels and 40ft-50ft displacement boats, the YF12e Hybrid expands Yanmar’s sustainable propulsion portfolio, which includes its HVO-compatible engines and DAME-winning SDe electric saildrive.”*

Yanmar has been pushing ahead with a series of innovations in recent years, **especially around electric drives and fuel cells**, whilst always prioritizing the needs of the installer, so we will study this new engine with great interest. Many boat buyers express an interest in all-electric propulsion but still have range anxiety, especially in motoryachts. Yanmar’s fuel cell technology may be the long-term answer, with a major new factory being built in Japan, but in the short-term hybrids continue to bridge the gap between range and increasing domestic loading, especially HVAC.

*“We are excited to unveil the YF12e Hybrid system at Metstrade, which is another way Yanmar provides customers with the Power of Choice,”* said Floris Lettinga, Director of Sales and Marketing at Yanmar Marine International. *“With this hybrid system, we’ve taken the complexity out of combining different systems and engineered it into one Yanmar solution. It’s designed to make the benefits of hybrid propulsion more accessible and easier to use.”*

Full specifications – and the chance to see the engine in the flesh – will be unveiled on the Yanmar stand. <https://www.yanmar.com/marine/>
