## Brief Summary

The Wellcraft 222F with Scarab Offshore Package adds styling and practical features to the company's recently introduced 222 model. She has an 8'6" (2.59 m) beam, 3" wider than most CCs in class, which means more space to get around the console when chasing a fish and should also add beam stability when drift fishing or trolling. The 21-degree deadrise is a good compromise, plenty of Vee to ease the ride, yet not so much as to make her tender, and with a draft of just 16" (0.41 m), the 222F with Scarab Offshore Package will function as a bay boat and for fishing the edge of the flats as well as for heading offshore when conditions are right.

Wellcraft is using its legendary Scarab Offshore name for upgrade packages that are available on new bay boats and center consoles. The Wellcraft 222F with Scarab Offshore Package includes all the features of the standard 222F. The Scarab Offshore Package adds the Scarab Offshore gel scheme, Scarab Offshore graphics, an upgraded leaning post or sport seating, upgraded cockpit interior and helm, bow and rod storage mats. Outboard power choices from Yamaha, Mercury, and Evinrude range from 150 to 250-hp.

![Wellcraft 222 Scarab Offshore profile](/sites/default/files/inline-images/wellcraft_222scaraboffshore_profile_2016.jpg)
The combination of the high sheer line and deep bow entry should give the Wellcraft 222 Scarab Offshore a secure feel and a dry ride in chop.

### Features Inspection

In the Wellcraft 222F with the Scarab Offshore’s self-bailing cockpit, a bench seat folds forward from the stern into the cockpit. There’s a passageway from the swim platform to starboard, and in the stern to port is a 23-gallon (22 L) livewell that’s finished in blue to keep the bait calm. There is storage for rods and landing gear in the gunwales, which are lined with soft mats to protect reels during a run to the fishing grounds. One of the upgrades that comes with the Scarab Offshore package is an upgraded leaning post that has a padded backrest with rocket-launcher style rod holders on the aft side and dedicated space in the frame to secure a carry-on cooler. Throughout the boat, walking surfaces are finished in a diamond-pattern nonskid.

![Wellcraft 222 Scarab Offshore seat](/sites/default/files/inline-images/wellcraft_222scaraboffshore_seat_2016.jpg)
The back seat folds out from the stern on a heavy-duty stainless steel assembly.

![Wellcraft 222 Scarab Offshore cooler](/sites/default/files/inline-images/wellcraft_222scaraboffshore_cooler_2016.jpg)
The leaning post base is contoured to provide space for the brackets to secure the Igloo carry-on cooler.

![Wellcraft 222 Scarab Offshore leaning post](/sites/default/files/inline-images/wellcraft_222scaraboffshore_leaningpost_2016.jpg)
The leaning post’s bottom cushion extends down to provide support when the captain and a companion want to run in a standing position.

![Wellcraft 222 Scarab Offshore seat trays](/sites/default/files/inline-images/wellcraft_222scaraboffshore_seattrays_2016.jpg)
The bottom cushion also tilts forward on hinges to reveal storage trays that would be good for hats, sunblock, and other sundries.

### The Helm.

Part of the Scarab package, the console is finished in black. Up top, the standard compass is in the center. We would like to see it to port ahead of the driver’s position, so he could see it more easily. Accessory switches run in a row across the top of the panel. The stainless steel steering wheel with a spinner knob is positioned to port, so there’s room to starboard for a companion. All the way to port, in the vertical section of the dash, Wellcraft installs the digital engine monitoring gauges. There’s space in the center of the panel for the optional navigation electronics and the optional stereo. To starboard, there are two stainless-steel cupholders and the boat comes with a 12V power plug. The Scarab package includes a soft mat on the console’s two-position angled footrests.

![Wellcraft 222 Scarab Offshore helm console](/sites/default/files/inline-images/wellcraft_222scaraboffshore_helmconsole_2016.jpg)
The console is designed with three rod holders on each side and notice how the base is designed to integrate the optional Deluxe T-top so cleanly.

### The Console.

Moving forward from the helm, there are three rod holders on each side of the console and a lounge on the front. The entire forward section lifts up to reveal a compartment that contains a Porta-Potti with plenty of seated headroom, net-style storage compartments, and access to the battery. A snap-down curtain makes it easy to get to the dash rigging.

![Wellcraft 222 Scarab Offshore head](/sites/default/files/inline-images/wellcraft_222scaraboffshore_head_2016.jpg)
The whole seat structure on the front of the console raises on a pair of stainless steel gas struts, making it easy to enter the compartment.

### The Bow.

In standard dress, the 222 Scarab Offshore has two diamond pattern, nonskid raised casting decks in the bow. The optional Bow Seating Package costs $1,308 and includes two outboard lounge cushions and port, starboard, and bow backrests. There are storage lockers outboard on each side and the insulated fishbox that drains overboard is in the bow sole. Where bowrails recessed below deck level on each side and forward, there is an anchor locker, a single cleat, and an anchor roller.

![Wellcraft 222 Scarab Offshore bow](/sites/default/files/inline-images/wellcraft_222scaraboffshore_bow_2016.jpg)
Adding the optional bow cushions would make the Wellcraft 222 Scarab Offshore’s bow more inviting.

![Wellcraft 222 Scarab Offshore fish box](/sites/default/files/inline-images/wellcraft_222scaraboffshore_fishbox_2016.jpg)
The hatch for the insulated fishbox opens on a stainless steel strut, and notice the dual drains for the scuppers.

### Construction.

The Wellcraft 222F with Scarab Offshore Package is built with fiberglass stringers, foam flotation, and a cockpit liner to give the boat a solid feel and a seam-free appearance. The Scarab Offshore package includes a three-color gelcoat scheme and all thru-hull fittings and cleats are stainless steel.

### Price of the Scarab Offshore Package.

The Wellcraft 222F with Scarab Offshore Package is a new boat that has the size and deep-V bottom design that makes it attractive as a trailerable center console that can head offshore on the right day. The bold graphics will make the series stand out from the crowd, and adding a couple of options could make the boat a good family model as well.
