Mission of the 195 HO
The 195 HO is designed to offer customers the thrill of jet boat handling and performance, along with a great deal of creature comforts and aggressive styling. Using high quality materials and hardware, the clever design of the 195 HO is built to last.
Scarab’s exclusive “versa lounge” converts the stern seating from aft-facing seats to a flat sun lounge, a walkthrough turns the seat backs into arm rests. This makes the stern seating the most versatile location on the boat.
Performance and Handling
We have not had the opportunity to test the 195 HO ourselves, however Scarab reports that with a Rotax 1.5L Supercharged 250 engine, she'll reach a top speed of 40 mph. Testing with a Rotax 1.5L Supercharged HO 250 the Scarab 195 will hit 43 mph at WOT, according to the builder.
The 195 HO is powered by a Rotax 250 engine coupled to a BRP jet drive. This is an upgrade from the base model 195’s 200 Rotax engine, and should deliver an exhilarating increase in performance.
The 195 HO was designed with two primary functions in mind – to be a comfortable cruising boat for family and friends, and to be a capable tow boat for a wide array of watersports. With an 8-person capacity, the 195 HO is perfectly suited to take a group of family and friends out for a day on the water. The bow seating, accessible through the walkthrough windshield, is large enough to sit 3 or 4 guests comfortably. With two forward facing backrests and two cupholders, two guests could lounge up there comfortable while underway.
The Deluxe ComfortRide captain’s chairs come with flip-up bolsters and are the most protected seats on the boat, thanks to the wraparound windshield.
Immediately aft of the captain’s chairs is a unique U-shaped seat that could comfortably sit 4 passengers. Scarab added a small, but very clever touch to the seats in order to make them more comfortable: the corners of the u-shaped bench are scalloped out, adding a good deal of legroom to an area that may otherwise become crowded.
As a tow vehicle, the 195 HO has several notable features. There is a built in tow point, so watersports enthusiasts are not struggling with tying tow ropes off to cleats or stern eyes. The aft facing seats in the stern will help those on board keep a close eye on the wakeboarder or water skier, in order to alert the driver when it is time to slow down or stop.
The hull design incorporates longitudinal tunnels and chine steps to reduce hull resistance and improve acceleration. Combined with the 250-hp Rotax jet drive, the boat is designed to have an impressive hole shot and the ability to stay on plane at a variety of speeds.
The large swim platform at the stern of the 195 HO is equally beneficial to both functions. Not only is it large and low enough to the water to assist with the loading and unloading of watersports, but with the unobstructed transom – thanks to the use of a concealed jet drive – it is also an ideal location to gather with friends for an afternoon swim.
As one may expect from a performance-based boat like the 195 HO, the helm is designed to give the operator the sensation of driving a sports car. The automotive style windshield is coupled with automotive style gauges and an ergonomic steering wheel.
Additionally, all vessel controls are within arm’s reach while sitting in the captain’s chair. This includes the primary system’s toggle switches (bilge pumps, lighting) as well as the stereo remote, which controls the Kicker stereo system.
Options to Consider
There are a number of options to consider for the 195 HO. If the boat will be used frequently for water sports, the foldable wakeboard tower with Bimini top is a great idea. Not only does it raise the tow point for pulling wakeboarders or skiers, it also provides plenty of shade for the passengers. Additionally, there are some optional driving enhancements, including cruise control and the Scarab Digital Speed Control Package system, which alters the drivetrain to optimize handling for docking, ski-towing, economy and cruise modes. If considering many options for the 195 HO, it would be worthwhile to understand that the 195 hull is available in three configurations. There is the base 195, the 195 HO and the 195 HO Impulse. The 195 HO Impulse incorporates all of the options mentioned above, in addition to further hull color choices (Laser Red, Sunburst Orange or Vivid Green) and custom boarding and cockpit mats for added comfort.
According to Scarab’s website, the 195 HO with trailer has a base price of $41,200 MSRP.
The Scarab 195 HO set out to be a performance-oriented, stylish jet boat. Not only was this achieved, they managed to do it while staying within a budget that is accessible to many customers in the market for a jet boat. And with the latest technology and dependability that Rotax engines bring to the table, this boat should surely be on the short list for anyone considering a jet-powered boat under 20’ (6.10 m).
