BoatTEST Comment: Sabre was started years ago as a respectable home for sailors to go when they got tired of standing on their ear and steering a boat outside in the rain. But, because of her Downeast-inspired look, the comparison with Hinckleys was inevitable, and this didn’t do the new brand any harm. Because there was no sales premium for the name plate, she was considerably less money. Also, a good number of boat owners preferred not to have jet-pumps, all of which, and other factors, made Sabre a success. She has remained so for several decades and so Sabre, along with Hinckley have attracted the boaters enamored with the traditional look of a Downeaster both inside and out. This is a couple’s boat that can be used around home for afternoon and evening outings with friends.
