The Story Behind the Invictus TT460

It’s rare that we get to hear from the designers or naval architects about the story behind a new model. In this video called Discovering the Soul, we get to hear from designer Christian Grande about the highlights on the Invictus TT460 including the half-reverse bow and floating hard top. He also explains the commitment made to trim and color research and the new hues like Wild Bronze and Spectrum Blue and how he applies them throughout this new day yacht. More...

Neptunus 650 Express

Built by Canadian Craftsmen

With more than 30 years in its wake, Neptunus is a widely-respected Canadian motoryacht builder. With the 650 Express, the company has lived up to its reputation. She is built to meet the CE Category A Ocean standard. She offers a new main-deck layout including a galley-aft design to starboard, center island and beverage center to port, all surrounded by large glass windows and aft sliding door. Her living accommodations include three en suite staterooms that are finely finished. She’s powered by twin 1,000-hp CAT C18s Acert diesel inboards that can push her to 30 knots. At a comfortable 10.9 knots, she’ll be able to travel almost 700 nautical miles with a 10% fuel reserve. More...

Galeon 470 Sky

Where Innovation Meets the Water

Maximum utility has been built into the Galeon 470 Sky, which is built by one of the most innovative yacht builders in the world. A coastal cruiser with a full beam owner’s stateroom plus two guest quarters, she offers fold-out sections of the aft gunwales to either side for additional entertainment space. The open bridge is another one of the builder’s innovations: it falls somewhere between a rooftop sun pad and a proper flying bridge, and that’s why she’s called a “Sky” model.  Up there is a retractable cover that makes the boat look like an express and keeps everything out of the elements when not in use. Top 10 Multifunction Displays

Multifunction displays (MFDs) have become the central nervous system of most boats, pulling information from just about every system and piece of equipment onboard and laying it out for the operator. Want to know where the fish are hiding, if the weather is going down hill or what the boat traffic ahead is doing? Call up those functions. Plotting the best course through unfamiliar waters or looking for a great dockside restaurant where you can tie up later, simple. Worried about someone falling overboard now that the weather is deteriorating and seas building, the man overboard alert is on the job 24/7. More...

Dashboard Upgrade Caveats

With good new boats hard to find at any price and old Betsey’s ticker still in good shape, it makes economic sense to spruce her up with new technology to get another few years of fun out of her – particularly since she’s paid off.  But creating a new dashboard with the latest electronics is not as easy as it seems.  Here are some points to ponder. How Do Watermakers Work?

For those of us who boat and do not wish to tote around cases of the bottled stuff, there is the option of an onboard watermaker. While they were once considered only necessary on long-range cruisers, the fact is they make sense on smaller express cruisers and other boats as well. Freshwater tanks typically are amazingly small on most boats and it’s easy to drain a tank with kids or landlubbers aboard. With the addition of UV treatment after the water has passed through reverse osmosis, the water you put in your tank is probably better than what comes out of your tap at home.  Find out how they work.
