At least 23 boats were destroyed in California.

Investigators at the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (Cal Fire) were trying to determine the cause of a dock fire reported just before 9 p.m. on 24 February, at Markley Cove Resort on Lake Berryessa in Napa County, which destroyed at least 23 marine craft, including houseboats, longboats, Jet Skis and pontoon boats.

Estimated 23 Watercrafts Destroyed

Cal Fire and other local agencies were called to the scene and firefighters were able to stop forward progress on the scene, which caused parts of the dock to sink. The incident was officially terminated just after midnight, according to Cal Fire spokesperson Jason Clay.

Fire and Rescue Respond to Boat Fire in Juneau, Alaska

2/24/23 - Juneau, AK

Capital City Fire and Rescue (CCFR) responded to the Statter Boat Harbor in Auke Bay on 24 February, responding to a report of a boat on fire. An investigation was launched immediately into the origin and cause of the fire.

The area of origin was the engine room, and while the exact cause of the ignition was undetermined, investigators believed that an electrical short may have occurred in the refrigeration system, igniting nearby flammable or combustible materials.

There were reports of a small explosion, thought to be caused by the breaker for the refrigeration system, which had catastrophically failed and separated wires in the box.

The owner announced plans to work with an electrician to systematically place the vessel in service before leaving the harbor.
