Tennessee Boat Fire Prompts Water Response
8/22/26 – Knoxville, TN
Emergency crews responded to the scene of a boat fire on Fort Loudoun Lake near Concord Marina in West Knox County, Tennessee.
According to dispatch logs, the call came in around 10:46 a.m. on August 22, with the burning vessel located about 100 yards out in the water on the side near the train tracks, showing heavy smoke and large flames.
Boaters Pushed Vessel Offshore to Prevent Spread
“Everyone made it off the boat safe,” officials said. According to police, at least six people were on the boat. Those on board pushed the boat towards the water when the fire happened, according to police.
Knox County Rescue arrived on the water with a rescue boat to assist Rural Metro with the operation.
Coast Guard Rescues Boaters from Sinking Vessel
8/15/26 – Naples, FL
A crew with the U.S. Coast Guard Station Fort Myers Beach rescued two people from a vessel taking on water near Naples, Florida, on August 15.
The Coast Guard said that their crew located the boat after seeing three red flares and flashing lights in the vicinity of the personal locator beacon.
The vessel capsized, and the two people were safely taken to Punta Rassa with no medical concerns.
Coast Guard Rescues 2 from Sinking PWC
8/17/26 – Miami, FL
A U.S. Coast Guard crew came to the rescue of two people off a shipping channel in Miami.
Coast Guard Sector Miami watchstanders were notified of a green and white personal watercraft (PWC) taking on water with two people aboard near Government Cut, at around 2:30 p.m. on August 17. Officials diverted a Coast Guard Station Miami Beach crew aboard a 36-foot response boat.
The crew arrived at the scene alongside a Miami-Dade Fire Rescue boat and safely pulled both people from the water.
The crew then placed the personal watercraft in tow and transported both victims and the vessel to Crandon Park Marina. No one was hurt.
Fire Department Responds to Ohio Lake Boat Collision
8/21/26 – Waverly, OH
The Fire Department in Waverly, Ohio, responded to a boating crash on the night of August 21 that left one injured.
At 7:56 p.m., WFD dispatched to the Lake White Boat Ramp area for a reported collision between a boat and another watercraft, which left the boat flipped upside down, according to a press release published on social media.
According to WFD, initial reports said one person was “unresponsive in the middle of the lake.” The fire department’s Water Rescue Team mobilized, and they arrived on scene as a boat brought the injured person to shore.
The team provided first aid until emergency medical services could assist. EMS personnel stabilized and transported them to a medical center.
The fire department said the person had sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The department also launched a rescue boat to assist with removing debris.
A bystander assisted other crew members with securing the damaged watercraft to prevent it from sinking.
The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Office of Law Enforcement launched an investigation into the incident.
Coast Guard Rescues 2 Capsized Kayakers
8/14/26 – Ventura Co., CA
The U.S. Coast Guard rescued two kayakers from the water around California’s Anacapa Island on the night of August 14, the Coast Guard said in a press release.
After their 14-foot yellow kayak overturned approximately a half-mile off Arch Rock, the unnamed kayakers called the Los Angeles–Long Beach sector of the Coast Guard at 11:17 p.m. for help.
USCG Sees Lack of Familiarity with Kayak as Factor
According to the Coast Guard, the open water and the pair’s lack of familiarity with using a kayak likely played a role in their struggle to un-capsize their vessel. “The kayakers stated they had been adrift and taking on water for approximately four hours, were wearing wetsuits and life jackets, and did not have a radio onboard,” the Coast Guard reported.
The Coast Guard launched crews from its Ventura air station and its Channel Islands station to rescue the pair.
A Jayhawk helicopter crew arrived on scene at midnight, hoisting the kayakers from the water and transporting them to Oxnard Airport. The two kayakers were then transferred to Ventura County emergency medical services and were reported to be in stable condition, the Coast Guard said.
2 Rescued After Canoe Capsizes Off Connecticut
8/17/26 – Milford, CT
Two people were rescued from Long Island Sound on the evening of August 17 after their canoe capsized about 300 yards off the coast of Milford, Connecticut, according to fire officials.
Milford's Emergency Operations Center received a 911 call from a passerby reporting a capsized canoe with two people in the water holding onto its side, Milford Fire Department assistant chief of operations Adam Hansen said.
Only One Canoeist Wearing PFD
With assistance from Milford police, a drone was immediately launched and confirmed that two people were in the water. Only one of them was wearing a personal flotation device, according to Hansen.
The fire department launched a full marine response, including two fire boats and a Jet Ski stationed at Walnut Beach.
Firefighters responding to the Jet Ski were dispatched, arrived at Walnut Beach, deployed the watercraft and reached the two people in distress within about 10 minutes, Hansen said.
Fire Crews Rescue 3 from Raft Swept Downstream
8/18/26 – Huntersville, NC
Fire crews rescued three people on the evening of August 18 after their raft was swept downstream on North Carolina’s Mountain Island Lake, according to a release from the Fire Department in Huntersville, NC.
Crews responded to the water rescue just after 7:30 p.m. Three people had been exploring on a raft on the lake when they were suddenly pushed downstream and needed emergency assistance.
HFD and Mount Holly Fire crews responded, found the three people and recovered them onto an HFD boat.
They were reunited with family at a local boat ramp, according to the release, and no injuries were reported.
