Aspen Unveils New C110 Cruising Catamaran
New Flagship Outboard Model Offers Choice of Asymmetric or Twin-Engine Configuration.
US builder Aspen Power Catamarans has introduced the new C110, the latest evolution of its outboard-powered cruising catamaran range.
The new Aspen Power Catamarans C110 is the latest addition to the builder’s outboard-powered cruising catamaran range.
Built around the company’s patented PROA asymmetric catamaran hull, the C110 combines updated propulsion technology with revised hull dimensions and a redesigned aft deck intended to improve cruising capability and onboard comfort.
The new model is available with either Aspen’s hull-matched propulsion arrangement, featuring a 175hp Mercury outboard on the narrower hull and a 225hp Mercury outboard on the wider hull, or twin 225hp Mercury outboards for owners seeking higher top speeds.
The latest Mercury engines are equipped with larger alternators, Digital Throttle & Shift (DTS) controls and electronic steering. Optional 115-amp alternators are designed to supply onboard systems, including air conditioning, while recharging lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery banks, reducing the need for a generator during extended periods at anchor.
The C110 has an overall length of 38ft with the engines lowered and a beam of 10ft 8in, allowing the boat to remain trailerable. The extended hull adds buoyancy aft, increases the size of the swim platform by 16in compared with the previous model and allows tenders carried on Aspen’s EZ Davit system to be positioned further aft, freeing cockpit space.
According to Aspen, the revised hull configuration also improves heavy weather performance while maintaining the efficiency associated with the builder’s displacement PROA hull design.
Performance figures for the first hull-matched C110 indicate a top speed of 34mph, while the boat cruises at 24mph at 4,000rpm. During preliminary trials, the company recorded fuel consumption of 12.4gph at 20.2mph (3,600rpm), equating to 1.63mpg and a calculated range of 293 miles based on the boat’s 180-gallon fuel capacity with a 10% reserve.
The cockpit has been redesigned to increase usable outdoor living space, even when carrying a Carbon Cat tender. Features include a wet bar with refrigerator, removable seating and table, storage for watersports and fishing equipment, a transom shower and an extended swim platform with a retractable stainless-steel ladder.
Inside, the climate-controlled saloon includes a fully equipped galley opposite a lounge with an American walnut table, while the helm is fitted with twin Bentley seats and wraparound glazing. Natural ventilation is provided through opening side windows, overhead hatches and an opening aft door and window.
Accommodation comprises three private cabins and a single head with shower. The forward owner’s cabin features a king-size berth, an uncommon feature in a vessel of this size.
“The new C110 combines comfort and accommodations for cruising with our super-efficient hulls powered by Mercury outboards,” said Larry Graf, Aspen’s founder and chief engineer.
Aspen said the C110 builds on its existing cruising catamaran range by giving owners the choice between maximum fuel efficiency using its asymmetric hull-matched propulsion arrangement or higher performance with twin outboards, while retaining the company’s focus on long-range cruising and extended onboard stays.
