Axopar 28 Cabin

Evolution of a Popular Model

Axopar is a Finnish company that builds its boats in Poland. The company burst onto the scene in 2014 with its first model, the 28. Since the first boat was introduced, company engineers have made subtle changes, adding 5.12” (13 cm) to the overall length, (1.97”) (5 cm) to the beam and 3.15” (8 cm) to the hullsides. Spray rails were softened and the keel shape was slightly rounded. Even the shape of the bow-thruster flanges was adjusted to improve hydrodynamics. To improve internal strength, the 28 Cabin gets the same stringers used in the company’s 37’ (11.28 m) models. More...

Formula 40 Performance Cruiser

Brilliant Finish Easily Maintained

It could be argued that Formula could be credited with starting the “easier boating” trend with models like its 40 Performance Cruiser. The company was one of the first to adopt joystick operation and as pretty as the specially formulated polyurethane paint over the Maxguard gelcoat is, it’s also easier to maintain. And that’s taken to the nth degree because the whole finish is covered in a clear coat that has a mirror-like quality that should last for years with minimal effort. No need for annual buffing and the extra cost of the paint – typically about $6,000 – is well worth it. More...

Everglades 455CC

New Flagship for Premium Builder

Everglades is celebrating its platinum anniversary in a big way with the new 455CC. Company management called the introduction of its 47’2” (14.38 m) flagship. Noteworthy features include Everglades’ largest helm to date that was developed with Garmin Marine’s Advanced Electronics Engineers and has three super-sized multifunction displays. Fishing highlights include port and starboard hullside doors and under-deck fish boxes. Premium cruising features like triple Release Marine helm seats and a king-sized berth and head with separate shower belowdecks will appeal to anyone. More...

Outer Reef 700

LRC w/Comfortable Helm

The Outer Reef 700 is a long-range cruising motoryacht and that means long stints for the captain at the helm. The folks at Outer Reef are experts at designing helm stations that are designed for comfortable management when doing long-range work. The upper station has two 17” (.43 m) displays with wind and depth displays to either side. The engine panels and gauges are in good sightlines. The oversized destroyer-style stainless wheel will not be used much as autopilots and thrusters will do most of the steering. Captain and companion travel will be in Stidd chairs known for their durability and comfort in a seaway. More...

Boston Whaler 325 Conquest

Unsinkable and Efficient

The twin 350-hp Mercury Verado outboards on the Boston Whaler 325 Conquest that we tested are the middle of the range offered for the boat. Base power is twin 300s and the maximum option is twin 400s. We hit a top speed of 48.6 mph at 6000 rpm with the twin 350s. For someone wanting to make an offshore run for a day of fishing, best cruise came at 4000 rpm where we recorded 28.5 mph at a range of 353 nautical miles with 10% of the boat’s 300-gallon (1,135.36-liter) fuel capacity held in reserve.
