In the Magellano 66, Azimut uses carbon fiber in the flying bridge, optional hardtop and swim platform. It helps create a lower center of gravity. On the bottom, Azimut employs what it calls the Dual Mode Hull with an upper chine that provides a wider beam at low speeds. At higher speed, the water flow separates from the lower chine, reducing the friction and increasing range and fuel efficiency. As we’ve said previously, the Chaparral 23 Surf combines the amenities of a luxury bowrider with a forward-facing drive, wake-shaping devices and a ballast system to create a family-focused wakesurf boat. One of the biggest differences between the 23 Surf and an inboard-powered boat is the ability to trim the stern drive. A 23’ (7 m) inboard-powered boat that we tested with a 430-hp engine hit a top speed of 42.1 mph, but this 23-footer with a 300-hp 6-2-liter MerCruiser Bravo Four S that could be trimmed, we hit a top speed of 44.7 mph.
