The two things a new operator needs to know is that, with the exception of personal watercraft, boats don’t have brakes and that while cars and trucks steer from the front, boats turn from the stern. The throttle is used to accelerate but it’s also the means of slowing a boat. Turning the steering wheel moves the back of the boat more than the front.
