Boating Industry Unites to Support Ukraine
Boating industry organizations, companies and individuals are among those across all walks of life coming together to organize relief efforts on behalf of Ukrainians. Click here for more information on the industry’s initiative in Europe.
The worsening situation in Ukraine continues to cast a shadow over Europe and stir action among individuals, companies and organizations across the world.
Many in the boating industry have been closely working with Ukrainian colleagues for years and are in touch with companies in Ukraine, who are doing their best to help their employees in this challenging period. Colleagues in Poland and elsewhere are also doing their utmost to help refugees fleeing Ukraine and support a wide range of humanitarian relief efforts.
Coordinated Efforts
European industry organizations are working together to raise funds for medical supplies going directly to Ukraine.
In this vein, the Council of European Boat Industry (EBI) has launched a fundraising campaign under the theme of ‘European Boating Industry for Ukraine’ working together with the German charity Action Medeor e.V., which specializes in the delivery of emergency medical supplies to crisis areas.
Founded 1964, the charitable, non-governmental organization EBI is coordinating with the largest medical aid organization in Europe, providing low-cost or donated medical aid to more than 10,000 health-care facilities in 140 countries around the world. In cases of emergency, Action Medeor delivers medical aid via a permanent supply of medicines and equipment maintained in a 43,000-sq.-ft. (4,000 sq. m) warehouse that can be dispatched within the first 24 hours of a disaster. The aid organization is certified and issues donation receipts (under German law). As long as it remains possible, Action Medeor is delivering supplies directly to Ukraine and has already built up its own infrastructure and logistics on the ground.
Fundraising Efforts
A fundraising page has been established, together with Germany’s marine industry association BVWW, which initiated the effort. This fundraising initiative welcomes donations from companies and private individuals. The donation page can be accessed here.
Action Medeor efforts focused on Ukraine are already well underway.
- In addition, the fundraiser is being promoted via EBI channels and social media networks.
- EBI members have been invited to voluntarily support the fundraising effort. IBI is among EBI members helping to spread the word.
The campaign is also open to all associations in the leisure marine sector — in Europe and internationally — to achieve the widest possible support.
