Brabus Shadow 900 Sun Top

Extravagant Performance in 38'

Aficionados of Axopar know the name Brabus means a car or a boat has taken performance and luxury to the next level. Words like “hedonistic” are used to describe the new 38’5” (11.73 m) Shadow 900 Sun Top. She features carbon-fiber highlights, fine leather, a glass dash and a custom steering wheel. She’s powered by twin 450-hp outboards from Mercury Racing. We have tested her and have our usual lively report on her speed and handling. More...

Leopard 53 PC

Wave-Busting Power Catamaran

It’s not often that we get 3’ (.9 m) to 5’ (1.52 m) seas in which to test boats, but it happened on test day for the Leopard 53 Cat. Our test boat’s plumb bows sliced through the waves with ease regardless of the wave direction. Her ride was relatively stable, the strong suit of cats and the reason they are rising in popularity in the U.S. Her twin 370-hp Yanmar diesels pushed us to 22.5 knots and at a cruise speed of 2800 rpm, she ran 16.8 knots and had a range of 599 miles. Ocean Alexander 27E

New Expedition Yacht for an Owner/Operator

The 88’9” (27.04 m) 27E is the first model in Ocean Alexander’s new Explorer series. She’s powered by twin 1650-hp MAN V12 inboards and with a fuel capacity of 2,186 gallons (8,274 L), she is definitely intended for long-term and distance expeditions. At an estimated test weight of 233,350 lbs. (105,846 kg), she topped out at 22.3 knots and we found best cruise at 1750 rpm and 14 knots where she had a range of 394.4 nautical miles. To cover longer distances, drop down to 1000 rpm and 8.5 knots to increase the range to 1260.6 nautical miles. Large rudders make her remarkably agile and a remote control makes docking much easier. Boston Whaler 150 Montauk

An Unsinkable Adventurer

Countless veteran boaters got their start in a boat like the Boston Whaler 150 Montauk. For parents, there’s something reassuring about knowing their kids are out on a boat that is unsinkable. The 150 Montauk is a compact center-console that can catch fish, tow tubes and spend hours exploring the coves of a lake or anchoring on a sandbar for a swim. When the fun is done, just hose her down. More...

Galeon 400 Fly

Equipped Like a Large Yacht

After putting the Galeon 400 Fly through her paces, Capt. Steve called the new flying bridge motoryacht “comfortable and fun to drive,” and gives good insight into her handling and trim. He was equally impressed when he was in the engine room and found that the boat was equipped with aluminum stops on each side of the rudder post that ensure that it won’t swing into the propeller if there is a malfunction.
