Breaking News Exclusive:

Sharrow SS Props Now Cast

sharrow-prop.png

The remarkable Sharrow looped prop is now being cast in stainless steel.

It was announced today that the innovative Sharrow loop boat prop would now be cast from stainless steel, instead of from a single stainless-steel billet. First unveiled last September, and tested by BoatTEST, the props were all made one at a time by CNC 5-axis routers from solid billets of aluminum and stainless steel, costing $10,000. The stainless-steel billets, weighing nearly 500 lbs. (227.27 kg.), cost over $2,600, according to Greg Sharrow. Sharrow is now taking $100 deposits on orders, the balance due when ready to ship, which will be in early 2021. More details in tomorrow’s BoatTEST newsletter.

Fleming Yachts 65:

Impeccably Built Long-Range Cruiser

fleming-65-051120.png

Fleming Yachts 65

The Fleming Yachts 65 is a long-range cruiser meant for passagemaking in comfort and luxury. With twin MAN I6 800 inboards, she has a range of up to 4,196 nautical miles and an endurance of more than 784 hours, at displacement speeds. What’s equally impressive is how quiet the motoryacht is. At full throttle, we recorded 68.2 decibels at the lower helm and at idle, the number dropped to 58.9 dbA. For comparison, regular conversation is conducted at 69 dbA. Additionally, Fleming uses the Aquadrive system to transfer thrust from the propeller directly to the hull, not the engine. The engines are installed on soft mounts, so they are virtually floating, which keeps vibration from being transmitted through the vessel. More...

Leopard 53 Powercat:

Spacious Cruising Catamaran

leopard-53pc-051120.png

Leopard 53 Powercat

The Leopard 53 Powercat is designed to be the next level of the cruising power catamaran. She has a spacious flying bridge and the cockpit and salon are on the same level. When this design concept is combined with her 25’2” (7.67 m) beam, it creates one of the most spacious feeling boats in this size range, one of the many benefits of a catamaran. It should be noted that a 25’ beam (7.62 m) is not seen in a monohull design until an LOA of about 125’ (38.10 m). Belowdecks, she’s available with three or four staterooms. When she’s underway, the Leopard 53 Powercat has the superior range that cruisers expect from a power catamaran. More...

Sea Ray SLX 350:

Big Muscle in a Quiet Dayboat

searay-slx350-051120.png

Sea Ray SLX 350

With so many manufacturers focusing on outboards, when Sea Ray redesigned the SLX 350, the company chose to power the boat with twin big-block sterndrives with Bravo 3 twin-prop drives. This provides the open stern and swim platform that freshwater boaters covet. In keeping with the industry’s current trend of making boating easier, the SLX 350 is available with an automatic trim system called the Dynamic Running Surface. To reduce noise and vibration as much as possible, Sea Ray’s Quiet Ride technology “tunes” the boat’s transom to dampen sound, something that BoatTEST has verified. The company says the result is a 10 decibel drop in noise, which we found to be true. More...

BENETEAU Monte Carlo 52:

New Express w/Enhanced Ride

beneteau-mc52-051120.png

BENETEAU Monte Carlo 52

When French builder BENETEAU decided to replace the Monte Carlo 5 with a new model, the company worked with naval architects at Marine Innovation Consulting and Design in Lecce, Italy, to draft a longer, wider hull, with a more contemporary look. But the big take-away from the MC5 hull design was its excellent ride because of its razor-sharp forefoot. The Monte Carlo 52 measures 53’7” (16.33 m) with a 15’2” (4.62 m) beam, while the Monte Carlo 5 was 49’10” (15.19 m) with a 14’2” (4.29 m) beam. In 1’ to 2’ seas, our test boat ran 26 knots at 3600 rpm and her best cruise was 16.4 knots and 2800 rpm, where she had a range of 209 nautical miles. More...

BoattestLEASING:

70% of Mercedes and BMWs are Leased —

Why Not Premium Boats, Too?

regal-29 - Copy.jpg

Regal 29 OBX

BoattestLEASING makes boating affordable to thousands of would-be boaters by leasing unused days in an owned boat and making them available for a low down-payment and low monthly payment. Essentially, the cost of ownership is spread over a number of boaters, and everyone wins: The boat owner who leases unused days receives income to defray his costs, the lessee receives use of a premium boat for far less than it would cost to rent or charter the same boat. To find out more, contact General Manager Greg Sweeney at 727-200-3474 or [email protected].
