Test of the Candela C-7 Electric Foiling Boat

Because air is 784 times less dense than water, the fluid through which a boat’s hull must travel requires a tremendous amount of energy. Therefore, conventional boats with the equivalent of a Tesla’s batteries aboard have a range that is a fraction of the automobile’s. For that reason, Candela has engineered a foiling powerboat. By lifting the hull out of the water on foils, thus greatly reducing drag, Candela is able to significantly extend the boat’s range on a given battery charge. This video explains the history of foiling powerboats and tests the energy consumption of the Candela C-7 at several operating speeds.
