The investment firm headed by founder and CEO Ophir Sternberg has partnered with billionaire entrepreneur John H. Ruiz to purchase the company from Skip Braver, who owned Cigarette for 20 years. For our test, the Formula 240 Bowrider was powered by a 430-hp MerCruiser 8.2 Mag Bravo III sterndrive and she hit a top speed of 53.6 mph. With a 350-hp MerCruiser 6.2 L Bravo Three, Formula said she hit 54.5 mph. The 6.2-liter engine is 280 lbs. (118 kg) lighter and, more importantly, it costs about $15,420 less than the big-block. But the Formula 240 is about a lot more than speed: She’s the ultimate bowrider in her size in terms of construction, fit-and-finish, amenities and enduring lines that seem to never go out of style.
