David Bowie’s Yacht For Sale: Ch, Ch, Changes
A Benetti superyacht once owned by legendary singer-songwriter David Bowie has been listed for sale by Giulio Riggio at Fraser Yachts' Palma Mallorca, Spain office, with an asking price of approximately $5.1 million (€4,850,000).
Fresh Refit
Built in 1977, the 128’ (39 m) El Caran is a Benetti motoryacht constructed from steel and aluminum. Originally called Deneb Star, the yacht has undergone numerous refits, with the most recent carried out in 2020 — with works including a fresh paint job, additional cabins, and a new teak deck.
“The refitting of this yacht was a brave challenge,” says architect and interior designer Simona Lamboglia. “This yacht belonged to David Bowie, and when the new owner proposed to do a restoration, my first thought was to respect the original project, but at the same time create a comfortable and modern environment.”
The yacht has six staterooms with accommodation for up to 12 guests including a full-beam master stateroom on the main deck. Every cabin comes with a en suite head including a bathtub. Key features aboard El Caran include a sky lounge and outside deck space, enhanced by her canoe stern design.
Five crew cabins accommodate seven including a chef. There are hints of the late performer’s artistic vision on board the yacht, including a surrealist picture that hangs in the dining room and bright retro prints on the furniture. Twin 824-hp MTU engines push her to a top speed of 12 knots and she has an estimated range of 3,800 nautical miles.
