Eastern Boats Coastal 30:

Affordable Downeast Cruiser

Eastern Boats Coastal 30

One benefit of Eastern Boats switching from a traditional Downeast bottom design to a conventional bottom on the Coastal 30 was the volume created belowdecks. In the entrance to the forward cabin, there’s 6’9” (2.06 m) of headroom. The provisions locker in the base of the island berth has shelves measuring more than 7’ (2.13 m) long and height inside is 42” (106.7 cm). The head has a separate shower stall, almost unheard of in a 30’ (9.14 m) boat. Eastern believes in giving as much boat as possible for the buck and keeping the number of bucks manageable. More...

Axopar 28 Cabin:

Ready and Able to Run Offshore

axopar-28-012521.png

Axopar 28 Cabin

The Axopar 28 Cabin has a twin-stepped bottom with a keel that extends all the way forward to the boat’s snub-nose, canoe bow. We tested her in 4’ to 6’ (1.22 m to 1.8 m) waves and she handled as well as any boat her size we have ever tested. In following seas, she sliced through the swells with ease. Putting her beam to the seas presented no more of a challenge as she charged through them, seemingly asking for more power to be applied. See the exciting video. More...

Ocean Alexander 27E:

Expedition Vessel Ready for Discovery

oceanalex-27e-012521.jpg

Ocean Alexander 27E

Ocean Alexander’s 27E (88’9”) is a long-range motoryacht designed for expeditions (therefore the “E”) and adventure. With a fuel capacity of 2,186 gallons (8,274 L), she has long-range capabilities at displacement speeds. Her aft deck storage and launching platform measures nearly 224.96 sq. ft (20.9 sq. m). That makes it large enough to hold two RIBs, plus other gear such as scuba tanks. Its standard portside hydraulic davit can be used to lower a single craft into the water or the entire platform can be submerged to launch a squadron. This design reminds us of large custom-built expedition vessels costing several times as much. More...

Northern Marine 57:

Old-School Looks w/Modern Build

northernmarine-57-012521.png

Northern Marine 57

Northern Marine builds the 57 with the latest technology made available by aircraft giant Boeing Corporation, which is based nearby in Washington. Construction starts with dry laminates placed in a mold in layers of fiberglass and core materials in a predetermined order for optimum strength and rigidity. The laminates are then covered with ply release materials and channels that allow resin to flow through. Then the mold is encapsulated in a large plastic bag to which hoses and bags are attached in specific locations and a pump generates vacuum to suck out all the air. When vacuum pressure reaches a steady level, valves are opened to draw the resin through the laminate. The fiberglass-to-resin ratio is 70-30. More...
