Wally WHY200:

Winning the Space Race

The Wally WHY200 was awarded the "Best Avant-Garde Yacht" at the Cannes Yachting Festival and little wonder as she is full of innovations at every turn – which is why she has won the coveted BoatTEST “Motoryacht Innovation Award of the Year.” Interior deck space measures 2,153 sq. ft. (200 sq. m) and the exteriors decks, virtually all of which can be used for entertaining, are 1,550 sq. ft. (144 sq. m). Now, while she might not be everyone’s cup of tea, the fact remains that Wally has once again pushed the envelope and this time her designers were thinking in the box instead of out of it. We hope that designers of all types and sizes of boat give this vessel a good look, because we see many ideas here that can be stolen. Remember, Picasso once said, “A great artist is never too proud to steal.” More...

Leopard 43 PC:

Bluewater-Bound Power Cat

While she is certainly capable of island-hopping, the Leopard 43 PC is an ocean-going catamaran designed for long-range cruising. She’s powered by twin 320-hp Yanmar 8LV320 diesel inboards and during our tests, she hit a top speed of 24 knots at 3730 rpm. Back down to 1500 rpm and 8.3 knots and she wrings 3.0 nautical miles out of a gallon of diesel and has a range of 713 nautical miles. If a captain needs to cover less distance in a shorter time, at a fast cruise of 16.7 knots at 2800 rpm, she still gets more than 1 mpg and can cover 254.4 nautical miles. More...

10 Fastest Motoryachts in the World

In 1988 Long Island car dealer John Staluppi’s quest to break the 50-mph barrier was accomplished in his 143’ (43.62 m) Octopussy in a river not far from the Heesen yard where she was built in Holland. Since then, large yacht owners have tasked their designers to come up with much faster motoryachts. In the meantime, Staluppi has traded in his radar gun for a fishing reel and a 92’ Viking convertible, named Miss Moneypenny. Today we present a video that shows the fastest 10 large motoyachts in the world, a quest promoted by Staluppi. More...

A Venice Without the Hordes

When someone mentions a trip to Venice, it’s probable that the famous Italian city comes to mind. A close second would be Venice, CA, with its beachy, boardwalk vibe. But in the Venice on Florida’s southern Gulf coast, you’ll find artistry of another kind and beaches that rank among America’s top rated. Once you see it for yourself, you’ll find this Venice remains all at once mysterious and inviting.

Outboard Engine Buyers' Guide

Pop Quiz:

How Many 100-HP Outboards Are There?

We all know by now that there is only one 600-hp engine on the market, but there is also only one 500-hp outboard and one 400-hp outboard. This makes sense because these engines are expensive, so the markets for them are small. But, when we get to 300-hp engines there are 10, and there are no fewer than 11 200-hp motors. The question is: How many 100-hp engines are there — 15, 10, 8, or 6? Click here to find out...
