With a far greater number of portable devices being brought onto a boat than ever before, US-based Hubbell Marine has developed a compact smart charger with four times the charge rate of the conventional ‘brick’ power supply. The outputs range from 1.5V to 20V, so cover the needs of most popular devices.

The company says it has leveraged gallium nitride technology to optimise the output from the charger whilst also greatly reducing the heat produced. This has led to a more compact casing. The unit is also tamper proof, and complies with all the international regulations for USB C1, 2 and 3 connections.

The chargers are offered in two configurations. The first contains two USB-C ports, one providing a higher rating of 55W and the other a 1.5A/5V ‘convenience’ port. The second configuration combines the higher voltage USB-C port and a 1.5A/5V convenience USB-A port.

Gallium nitride allows for faster charging.

Hubbell’s USB-C Power Delivery Receptacles are made from heavy-duty stainless-steel to withstand the marine environment and are rated for 10,000 cycles. For mains power applications afloat, Duplex 125VAC power receptacles are available in 15A or 20A models. In situations where equipment needs to be powered almost constantly, such as a charter yacht, extra-durable commercial-grade models are available.

The chargers are available in black, white, ivory, light almond, brown and grey. If your colour scheme has a touch or rouge or scarlet, then Hubbell Marine’s hospital grade line is also available in red.
