Denison Yachting:

Evolution of a Megayacht Dynasty

denison-family-photo.png

The Denison family circa early 1950s, from L to R: Ken, Gertrude, Kit, Frank, and Skip.

Denison Yachting is not just another yacht-brokerage firm. Rather, it is one with a rich family history of building large custom motoryachts for six decades. Founded in 1948 by Frank Denison, first building in wood and then in aluminum, it was the largest builder of megayachts in the world by the 1980s. Frank’s three sons also got into the motoryacht business, first working in the yard, then selling the multi-million-dollar yachts.

Today, Bob Denison, grandson of Frank, heads up Denison Yachting, where uncles Ken and Skip are two of the company’s 85 licensed brokers. The firm has 23 brick-and-mortar offices across the country. Since 2018, the firm has been responsible for selling more megayachts from 80’ (24.38 m) to 150’ (45.72 m) than any other brokerage company in the world, according to the company.

Denison Yachting has more than 650 central brokerage listings, about half of them are under 50’ (15.2 m), and all of them can be accessed from BoatTEST’s special “Pre-Owned Yachts” section found on the top of each page. Every Wednesday, we feature one of Denison Yachting’s central listings – be sure to watch for them – and see below for today’s spotlight.

Refined Dual-Console

grady-freedom285-113020.png

In 2020, Grady-White re-engineered its Freedom 285, improving the boat’s overall ergonomics. This is immediately evident upon boarding from any dock, thanks to the port side bulwark door. The cockpit depth is 27” (.69 m) deep, and deadrise at the transom is 19 degrees with Grady’s signature SeaV2 progression. The helm seat is electromechanically adjustable, while the aft lounge seat is electromechanically extendable.

2010 80’ Norseman Tri-Deck:

Aqua Villa

aqua-villa.png

The 2010 80’ (24.38 m) Norseman Tri-Deck Aqua Villa and her Avon tender have spent the entirety of their lives in freshwater on Lake Washington. She sleeps 11 including crew and her main deck master stateroom has 240-degree views. Designer Gary Grant drew the tender garage as a drive-in unit, eliminating the need for davits on deck. Having the tender low in the boat also improves the center of gravity. Twin 1,632-hp CAT C32s push her to a top speed of 23 knots and a cruise of 12 knots at 1500 rpm.
