Gran Turismo Mediterranea: Ferrari-Inspired Megayacht

Not only is the Mediterranea inspired by Ferrari, it’s designed to carry one of the cars.

The Lazzarini Design Studio in Rome has unveiled a concept yacht that’s inspired by Ferrari and pays tribute to the legendary Italian sportscar manufacturer, the Gran Turismo Mediterranea (GTM). She also has a stern garage designed to carry, of course, a Ferrari.

Need For Speed

The studio calls the concept a “hyperyacht” and estimates her top speed at just over 80 mph or 70 knots. She has an overall length of 90’ (27 m) with a beam of 22’ (6.7 m) and is powered by MAN V12 engines coupled to Arneson surface drives that are outboard of a centrally positioned Hamilton jet. The designer says the jet would be used for thrust when accelerating and while making high-speed turns.

The foil can be retracted into the hull when running at slower speeds to reduce draft.

She also has a wing foil in the hull that can be deployed to lift the hull partially out of the water, decreasing resistance and increasing speed.

Twin gullwing doors open at amidships and can be left open at speeds up to 40 mph. The doors, multiple exhaust outlets at the stern and the Ferrari red color are intended to give the impression of the yacht being Ferrari’s bigger marine brother.

Drive Aboard

The GTM’s rear platform could be her most innovative feature. It extends upward and outward with the push of a button and is sized to accommodate a Ferrari automobile that can be driven on. If an owner prefers, it can be left more conventionally as a sundeck with lounges and a set of stairs that provide access to the water.

When the time comes to head ashore, the boat is designed to carry a Ferrari.

Moving forward, her salon has facing lounges and it’s a couple of steps up to the helm deck that has two high-backed bucket seats that look to be straight out of a Ferrari sportscar. The steering wheel is to the left with the throttles centrally positioned and instrumentation looks to be a glass dash.
