NW Explorations

Live Large – Cruise Alaska in a 50’ Trawler

One of the largest boats in the Mother Goose Flotilla is actually less expensive than going on a cruise.

One of the most important lessons we’ve learned over the years is this: Cruise in the largest boat possible, so long as it isn’t a cruise ship. NW Explorations’ annual Mother Goose Flotilla cruise around the Alaskan panhandle has availability in a couple of large boats, and we highly recommend them. One is pictured above. Ironically, you have your own private yacht for a 10- to 14-day cruise for less than it would cost for your 4-person family on a premium cruise – and you won’t have to wait in line, wear a mask or listen to the guy in the next cabin.

A second advantage is that you will get some valuable sea-time experience in a large yacht and find out the little secret no professional captain will tell you: Namely, that they are actually easier to handle than small sterndrives.

Time is drawing short to sign up for a leg of NW Explorations’ annual Mother Goose Flotilla cruising in Alaska this Spring and Summer. The first leg of the cruise starts in Ketchikan, AK on May 18, 2021, and the last one starts on August 13. This is absolutely the best time to cruise through the passages and around the islands in the Alaskan panhandle, most of which is in protected water. More...

Hatteras M90

Luxury Yacht w/Contemporary Design

She’s available with an open or enclosed flying bridge and has four en suite staterooms including a full-beam master. She was the first Hatteras with flip-down bulwarks and is among the most technically advanced yachts to come out of the North Carolina facility. More...

Regal LS4 Surf

Pioneering Wakesurfing Bowrider

Regal Marine’s LS4 Surf was one of the first bowriders to be equipped with Volvo Penta’s Forward Drive. It’s a sterndrive with the propellers on the front of the drive so they’re farther away from a rider in the water. She offers the passenger capacity and amenities expected from Regal, but she can also carry 2,000 lbs. (907 kg) of water ballast. More...

World Cat 280CC-X

Cat w/Wide-Ranging Advantages

With twin hulls, a 9’2” (2.79 m) beam and exceptional freeboard forward, the World Cat 280CC-X is ready for long offshore runs. Her sheerline and tumblehome give the boat a sleeker look than most offshore cats and the broad bow provides more deck and seating space than a monohull. She’s also plenty capable with twin 200-hp outboards that keep purchase and operating costs to a minimum. More...

How to Maintain Your Trailer

Trailer-boat owners often store their boats for long periods and then expect to be able to back up the truck and haul them down the road without a thought toward maintenance. Even people who are diligent about maintaining their boats often ignore their trailers. Following are some tips for routine maintenance for the oft-ignored trailer. More...
