Jet Capsule: Futuristic Hybrid Seats 9

jet capsule, hybrid power, Lazzarini

The Jet Capsule looks like something out of the Jetsons, but it’s a real boat.

First launched in 2019, the Jet Capsule is now in production. It’s a 25’9” (7.85 m) vessel with an 11’1” (3.38 m) beam and it’s powered by a hybrid diesel-electric powertrain linked to a Hamilton 292 jet drive. It’s available with several interior layouts and can seat up to eight passengers plus the captain.

Public or Private

The Jet Capsule CX was designed by the Lazzari studio in Rome and is built from carbon fiber and fiberglass. She can be powered by up to twin 440-hp Yanmar diesels. With a single 370-hp Yanmar 8LV diesel, she cruises at about 29 mph. In full-electric mode, she can hit a top speed of 18 mph and run for 45 minutes. Slow down to 9 mph and the run time increases to two hours.

The large side windows provide good exterior views while keeping the occupants protected from the elements.

Dry displacement for the CX model is estimated at 4,600 lbs. (2,086.5 kg). She carries 60.76 gallons (230 liters) of fuel and 23.25 gallons (88 liters) of freshwater. Her aft door can be opened manually or remotely and she has full navigation lights for nighttime operation.

Jet capsule helm, battery monitors

The helm has monitors for the electric propulsion system and batteries in the center with analog gauges for the diesel engine to port.

A larger Jet Capsule LX is 31.17’ (9.5 m) and can have twin engines up to 1,100 hp total. She was designed for public water transportation and can seat 20 or accommodate 16 with a private head and space for a wheelchair.
