Windmill Point County Maritime Recreational Campus
Westland Beach at Windmill Point has seen the reestablishment of the public beach and fishing pier and the construction of first-class amenities. The first phase focused on offshore breakwaters, beach restoration and expansion, and dune restoration with vegetation. The second phase amenities include a 450-foot fishing pier, featuring fish cleaning stations and a public saltwater fishing license, a parking area with a comfort station, and beautiful landscape plantings. This project promises to transform the waterfront experience with a pristine Chesapeake Bay access beach and fishing pier for all to enjoy. Boaters can let in at the public boat ramp, or they can dock and refuel at Windmill Point Marina. Canoes and kayaks can embark from the Windmill Point Launch on Little Oyster Creek. Westland Beach at Windmill Point opened in November 2025.
Harpers Creek Park and Working Waterfront Complex
Harpers Creek Park and Working Waterfront Complex is a recreational and commercial public access area that boasts a public boat ramp, fishing pier and comfort station. Located adjacent to a seafood landing and processing facility, this public access site looks to serve the County’s commercial water dependent industries as well as providing first class amenities for recreational use. This project expands direct access to the Chesapeake Bay via a pristine waterway in Antipoison Creek that has a history as a working waterway. Harpers Creek Park and Working Waterfront Complex opened in April 2026.
Thomas Landing
Thomas Landing on Greenvale Creek is a place for easy kayaking and paddling, especially for beginners. This park is an all-accessible destination with its ADA compliant Courtesy Dock and Boat Ramp. It also provides ample parking and courtesy life jackets, making it an excellent base for exploring the scenic Rappahannock River.
Taylor Creek County Park
Taylor Creek, along the Corrotoman River, offers a serene escape for kayak and canoe enthusiasts, nature trails, an environmental learning center, and an outdoor classroom. The scenic overlook and shelter house add to the appeal, making it an ideal spot for family outings and educational adventures. Opening Fall 2026.
Carter Cove County Park
Soon to be located at the mouth of Carter Creek, Carter Cove County Park is set to become a hub of activity and relaxation. Here, visitors can look forward to a Oyster Heritage Learning Center, a boat ramp, kayak and canoe launches, a fishing pier, and a shelter house for picnicking. Nature enthusiasts can explore the nearby nature trails while taking in the breathtaking views. Opening Spring 2027.
Chesapeake Trail Canoe/Kayak Launch
Chesapeake Trail Park is situated on the upper reaches of the Western Branch of the Corrotoman River. Currently featuring a hiking trail, improvements to the park will include an ADA canoe and kayak launch, expanded parking, and trail enhancements. When completed, the park will offer access to one of Lancaster County’s most serene waterways by land and water. Opening Summer 2027.
