Underwater lights manufacturer Lumishore has tested the transparent foul-release agent Lightspeed and announced that the product protects underwater lights. It also maintains light quality and the color.

Full Test

Lightspeed is an anti-fouling coating made by Propspeed, the New Zealand-based company that offers a similar product for propellers and running gear. Lumishore conducted before-and-after tests on its TIX803 EOX light, checking lumen output and color consistency.

The first test was conducted on the untreated light on the red, green, blue and white channels. Next, Ligthspeed was applied to the lens and bronze bezel of the light. The results showed little difference in the before and after measurements, according to International Boating Industry. Additionally, the color didn’t change.

Long Term Exposure

Lumishore engineers submerged the Lightspeed-coated light in a seawater test tank and left it running for six months. The light continued to cycle through color changes every hour so all wavelengths of light were tested equally over the duration of the evaluation. After six months, no difference was reported.

No matter the color or size of boat, owners may want to consider protecting their underwater lights with Lightspeed.

“To have one of the industry’s top lighting manufacturers validate the efficacy of Lightspeed is valuable beyond measure,” Chris Baird, Propspeed CEO, said in a statement. “We are confident that boaters who have underwater lighting, whether Lumishores or any other brand, will be exceptionally satisfied with the quality oand longevity of the product.”

Lightspeed is an eco-friendly transparent product. The company says it is an easy and affordable way for boatowners to reduce maintenance and ensure a lighting system’s performance.
