Governor Hogan:
Tear Up That “No Boating” Order!
Following up on Gov. Larry Hogan’s order, a notice on the Maryland DNR website stated: “...recreational boating is not allowed. [our emphasis] Subsistence hunting and fishing — limited hunting and limited recreational fishing and crabbing for sustenance — can continue, however social distancing must be adhered to strictly.”
It was not clear whether or not the governor, himself, specifically prohibited recreational boating, or if this was something the DNR added. The Governor does permit outdoor exercise so long as social distancing is practiced. So why not boating, as well? Boats don’t have COVID-19, infected people do.
BoatTEST is committed to social distancing and safe activities but feels strongly that family recreational boating provides responsible citizens important — and safe — relief from the grim and debilitating nature of long-term confinement. In other words, family boating can make the necessity of “stay at home” isolation far more tolerable, and more likely to be obeyed for the long term. Social distancing is the key, not where it is done.
We ask all BoatTEST Members in Maryland to make their feelings known to the Governor.

Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 490:
Proven Functionality and Reliability
Designed by Philippe Briand and Jean Marc Piaton, the Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 490 combines clean lines with logical layout and easy handling, even when sailing short-handed. Twin wheels and rudders provide good visibility forward on all points of sail. The cathedral mast with two spreaders and split shrouds allows for unhampered circulation when traversing the side decks, and the ability to be close-hauled when beating. The low gooseneck makes the lazy bag accessible so there’s no need to climb the mast when dousing the main. The L-shaped cast iron keel is designed to shed seaweed and marine debris. Below, layout options range from two cabins, two heads to five cabins, three heads. See the full sailing test and walkthrough here...

Lease Your Boat for
“Found Income”
This 2020 Pursuit DC266 is currently available for lease in St. Petersburg, Florida. Click here for more info on this boat...
When we announced BoattestLEASING in mid-January, we were overwhelmed with the response. Then — just a month later — the world changed. Boat leasing turned from being a good idea for early adapters, into a necessity for many boaters who want to get on the water — or keep their boats.
By sharing boat expenses among owners and leaseholders, boating — despite the tough times ahead — can be affordable.
BoattestLEASING is an excellent solution for boat owners of late-model vessels who need financial help because of a severe drop in income due to our current financial crisis. BoattestLEASING will manage your boat, if it meets our criteria, and lease it to people in your locale who can’t afford, or don’t want, the expense and hassles of owning a boat. You pick the number of usage days you want to keep, and we’ll advertise the rest to the local market. Income you receive will be “found money” to help cover your costs related to the boat. Leases run from 1 to 4 years.
