The M220 is intended to be a more affordable family surf boat.

Malibu Boats, which builds wakesports towboats, has unveiled its new M220. The new model takes its cues from the flagship of the series, the M240. “The response to the M240 was overwhelming,” Malibu CEO Jack Springer said in a statement. “We kept getting requests for a more compact version of the ultra-premium M240, so we worked incredibly hard to make a boat just under 23 feet that would live up to the new benchmark the M-Series set.”

Surf Equipped

The M220 has the same profile and taller hullsides as the M240 that Malibu says help the boat cut through rougher water than other boats in class. The ballast system includes Quad Hard Tanks with fast-fill and fast-drain pumps and the M220 is equipped with Malibu’s Surf Gate, Power Wedge II and Surf Band. Surf Gate is made up of appendages on each side of the stern to create wakes on one side or the other. Power Wedge III is an adjustable plane used to customize the wake’s shape and Surf Band puts the rider in control of the whole system. The Malibu Command Center is a multifunction display with tactile buttons and dials that make it easier for the driver to tweak settings while underway. Stern Turn uses an aft thruster to make sharper turns when retrieving a downed rider and to improve low-speed maneuvering.

The M220 is designed with taller hullsides to provide more security in the cockpit.

Comfort Features

The M220 can be upgraded with the Core edition and the Malibu Operating System (mOS) or with the M-Series edition with a luxury dash housing, a windshield with air vents and a boosted stereo. A power driver’s seat that swivels and adjusts fore and aft is available. The Malibu Command Center has dual touch screens that control forward and aft-facing cameras as well as the wakes.

After a surf ride, reboarding is facilitated by the Flip Down Swim Step and just ahead is a luxury transom seat. The walk-through to the cockpit is covered in Malibu’s Soft Grip cool touch foam. Passengers can watch the action in the wakes from the optional Malibu Multi View Wake Bench seat that transitions from a standard bench to rear-facing or to a dining table. The corner seats are contoured for more comfort. Move to the M220’s bow where forward-facing lounges feature a flip-up seatback transforms the area into a playpen with triple-wide seating. A Wet Sounds 5,500-watt audio package with 12” subwoofers is available.

The bow can be fully filled in to create a large playpen while the cockpit has seating that can be converted for multiple uses.

Towers and Power

Overhead, the new G5 tower has an elevated tow point and supports racks and speakers. The Malibu Gx tower is an available option that raises and lowers with the push of a button. Finally, the M220 is powered by the Malibu Monsoon M6Di direct-injected engine.
