During this summer’s Newport to Bermuda Race the skipper of the boat above, Morgan of Marietta, was swept overboard by a large wave. Read the official report of the rescue.

There are often arduous conditions in the bi-annual 635-mile Newport to Bermuda Race, and this year was no exception. Two days after the start and over 200 miles down the track, the 42’ Morgan of Marietta was sailing through 10’ seas which occasionally reached a height of 15’ to 18.’ The boat’s owner and captain, Colin Golder, a veteran of numerous Bermuda Races, came from below on deck, and was almost immediately swept overboard by a wave.
