New Marinco Shorepower Eliminates Hassle

If you have been bedeviled by conventional shorepower plugs and heavy cords, you’ll appreciate the new Marinco EEL ShorePower cord sold by Defender Industries. Traditional shorepower plugs have a threaded ring that secures them in place. The hassle is getting them in the right way and being careful not to strip the threads on the plug. All of which can lead to aggravation and even an unsafe operating connection. Marinco has a new patented locking system that eliminates the need for threaded fittings and the company says it creates a watertight seal. Defender Industries carries the full line of the Marinco cords. More...

Jeanneau NC 1095

Affordable Outboard Cruiser

The Jeanneau NC 1095 is a 34’5” (10.49 m) long family cruiser that benefits on two fronts from having outboard power. First, she has a sporty feel with twin 300-hp Yamahas that pushed the yacht to 40.2 mph in our tests and put her on plane in 3.9 seconds. Second, the outboards allow for more passenger capacity with al fresco spaces fore and aft and the potential to sleep up to eight people. She’s intended for boaters who want to stretch their dollar. Hunt Yachts Ocean 63

A Modern Classic

Hunt Yachts tells us its new Ocean 63 was designed for an experienced owner/operator. She’s powered by twin 1,000-hp Volvo Penta IPS1350s, has an 18’ (5.48 m) beam and had a 66% fuel load for a tested weight of about 84,683 lbs. (38,411 kg). During our sea trials, we hit a top speed of 31.8 knots at 2470 rpm. We found best cruise at 2200 rpm, where she ran 26.5 knots and had a range of 329.6 nautical miles. She has upper and lower helm stations and her engine compartment is among the most spacious in class.

Her 20-degree deadrise at the transom and hull was designed specifically for offshore work by C. Raymond Hunt Design, the firm that developed the deep-V concept more than 50 years ago. Located in Portsmouth, RI, Hunt Yachts embraces the traditional Downeast look with its own interpretation of the genre, which should never go out of style. The long experience of the Hunt corporate infrastructure ensures a knowledgeable build – she is built to American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) standards with only the highest quality equipment and materials used and her craftsmanship is world-class. Summit Yachts 54

Designed for a Fast Long Weekend

It’s been well documented that the Summit MotorYachts 54 can get up and run at a cruising speed of 21 knots, making short work of long distances on a three-day weekend getaway. No wonder, her bottom was designed by Michael Peters who has dialed in the optimum bottom shape for her mission. He’s been doing it for years for dozens of builders. When taking that well-deserved sabbatical down island for a month or two, she has a range of more than 1,200 nautical miles at displacement speeds. As can be seen above, her lower helm is to starboard with a side door that’s handy for quick exit. For docking, she has a wireless DockMate remote, which we consider the best of the type, that let us dock the boat from anywhere on board. More...
