Megayacht Sinking of the Week

Megayacht Sinks off Coast of Turkey

With so many megayachts plying the oceans of the world, it is no wonder that now and then one gets in trouble. This one was off the coast of Turkey, one of the best cruising grounds in the world. Ten people were aboard.

A superyacht was involved in an incident and began taking on water near Doganbey Island off Seferihisar in western Turkey on June 29. The yacht is believed to be the 85’ (26 m) Kapky. Local reports indicate the superyacht started to sink at 11:00 am local time.

A salvage mission has begun and local media has reported the vessel has been rescued from sinking to the sea floor. It is not currently known what caused the vessel to take on water. Investigations are ongoing.
