The new boat will be available in cruising and racing versions.

The first Nautor Swan 98 sailboat was introduced last week during a virtual press conference. The Finnish manufacturer’s Maxi line now ranges from 65’ to 131’ and all were designed by Germán Frers, who has worked with the builder for more than 30 years.

Combination Use

The 98 is customizable to an owner’s preferences and is available in racing and cruising configurations. According to the Robb Report, the first one, BeCool, has a combination cruising and racing focus and will participate in several Maxi regattas.

Nautor Swan’s Maxi series made its debut in 1972 and the first 65 had a 17-year production run with 72 models being produced. The new 98 is built with lightweight carbon-fiber composites at the company’s facility in Pietarsaari, Finland. Owners can choose between two different cabin layouts and four interior designs. Belowdecks, BeCool has a center salon, a galley, a master suite and three guest cabins with en suite heads.

Large hullside windows and overhead deck hatches let in ample natural light.

More Accessibility

The 98 has a telescoping keel that reduces draft so the yacht can get into shallower harbors. Her cabin does not extend above the deck. Her large cockpit is social abaft the mast and the open aft end features dual helms and space for crew to work when racing. The foredeck has space for guests to stretch out and soak up some rays.

While BeCool is designed for a variety of uses, the second 98 will be focused on racing while a third will be configured for global cruising with systems that allow longer times at sea. Other Maxis including 120’ and 125’ models are currently under construction.

Her sleek design and low profile should lend themselves well to Maxi racing.
