The BoatUS Foundation for Boating Safety and Clean Water has just rolled out two new free microcourses, making it easier for boaters to brush up on critical skills. These short, engaging courses, Aids to Navigation Basics and Nighttime Boating Basics, are designed to fit into a busy schedule, helping you navigate with greater confidence.

Buoys and Markers

The Aids to Navigation Basics course is a quick guide to understanding the various buoys and markers you'll encounter on the water. It also reinforces the importance of keeping a sharp lookout and using updated charts to stay on course.

Boating After Dark

Meanwhile, the Nighttime Boating Basics course tackles the unique challenges of operating a vessel after sunset. It provides essential tips on preparing for evening trips, following regulations for low-visibility conditions, and properly using navigation lights to stay safe.

The courses are interactive, featuring video quizzes and simulations, and can be completed in under 30 minutes each. While they don't fulfill state boating education requirements, they are excellent for enhancing your knowledge and building on the information found in the Foundation's free, full-length online course.

Ready to improve your skills? You can find these new microcourses and the Foundation’s full suite of online offerings at BoatUS.org/Courses.
