The latest model in Maritimo’s flying bridge series is still in the development phase, but the M55 is expected to hit the water in 2021. Among her features are the extra-large aft “Adventure Deck,” which combines with the swim platform to create a wide-open area from which to enjoy as a private beach area or a launch area for activities such as snorkeling, diving or fishing. Today, we’re sharing with all our members a commercial video made by Maritimo to preview the M55. More...

Robalo R230:

Tall Decks for a Secure Ride

robalo-r230-090420.jpg

Notice that the woman in the aft port seat of the R230 is in up to her armpit.

Robalo’s R230 has one of the deepest cockpits in class at 26” (66 cm) aft and 31” (79 cm) forward. The manufacturer calls the design concept “high-belt” and the taller bulwarks carry over to adding depth in other areas. For example, the private head compartment in the console has 5’ (1.52 m) of headroom, which is better than average for boats in this size range. While we usually don’t talk about storage, the compartment in the R230’s bow is 22” deep (55.87 cm). The R230 is also the largest center console Robalo makes with a an 8’6” (2.59 m) beam, which makes her the biggest that can be towed in all 50 states without a permit. More...

The Prestige 520 Fly’s master stateroom.

One feature that Prestige Yachts carries over from its larger motoryachts to the 520 Fly is private entrance to the master stateroom from the aft end of the salon. This eliminates guests walking past the cabin entry and enhances the owner’s privacy. The suite benefits from the lengthy hullside windows and 6’11” (2.10 m) of headroom. The queen berth is on the centerline and steps on each side provide easier access. The 520 Fly has three cabins and the aft area can be configured with guest quarters or a tender garage. More...

Boater Education

America’s Boating Club:

Online Courses for Boaters of All Skill Levels

americas-boating-083120.png

America’s Boating Club is an excellent resource for boaters to learn the basics.

America’s Boating Course provides boaters with the basic knowledge they need to help them decide what type and size boat they need, what to do when meeting another boat in a crowded waterway and more. The course is offered as an interactive online presentation or as a classroom session. For many states, completion of the course meets the boating education requirements and many boat insurance companies will offer discounts to boaters who successfully finish it. Once someone completes America’s Boating Course, boaters should consider the new Boat Handling course, which will add to their skillset by covering topics like rules of the road, confidence when docking and emergencies on board.
