New Azimut Yachts Magellano 30 Metri: Launched in Italy
Italy’s Azimut Yachts launched its Magellano 30 Metri recently in Viareggio, Itay. The builder says the boat is designed for the experienced owner who wants to take long-distance cruises even in less-than-ideal weather conditions.
Extended Cruiser
She was designed by the same team that did the Magellano 25 Metri, Ken Frievokh, who handled the exterior styling, while Vincenzo De Cotiis, who designed the interiors. The bottom design was drawn by P.L. Ausonio Naval Architecture and Azimut’s in-house team. The concept was a design that offers a view of the sky and sea from every point on board while sustainability-related choices aim to reduce the yacht’s environmental impact.
The flagship of the Magellano line measures 97’6” (29.63 m) long overall with a 23’ (7 m) beam and a 6’8” (2.03 m) draft. Displacement is estimated at 135 tons. She carries 3,831 gallons (14,500 L) of fuel and 528.4 gallons (2,000 L) of fresh water.
Azimut says the Magellano line is for owners who seek extended on-board experiences and has lower fuel consumption at a wide range of speeds. The interiors are also designed for long stays on board.
Design Elements
Striking teak louvers close and complement the extensive glazed surfaces in the superstructure. In keeping with its calling as a crossover, the new 97’6” (29. 63 m) yacht offers spacious, light-filled interiors that De Cotiis wanted to make intimate and inviting.
Freivokh and De Cotiis have designed the three decks to create seamless contact with the sea, from the Infinity Terrace that welcomes guests on board to the generous terrace on the Upper Deck for socializing and enjoying the pleasure of cruising in the open air.
The windows — more than 750 sq. ft. (70 sq. m) of glazed surfaces — also ensure uninterrupted visual continuity between the indoor and the surrounding environment, from the full-beam owner’s suite and the living space on the main deck to the skylounge on the upper level.
Sustainability
The innovative thrust of the Magellano 30 Metri is also expressed in the choices made to reduce environmental impact.
The second-generation dual mode hull, designed by naval architecture firm P.L.A.N.A. on a joint basis with the Azimut Yachts R&D center, ensures a higher level of stability, keeping fuel consumption down at midrange and higher speeds, reducing consumption by about 15 percent compared with traditional hard chine planing hulls, according to Azimut.
Power is twin 1,550-hp MAN diesel inboards that Azimut says will push her to a top speed of 20 knots and a cruise of 16.
Finally, the Magellano 30 Metri is designed to be fitted with the Hotel Mode package that includes 100kWh lithium batteries so that she can stay at anchor with zero emissions for up to four hours during the day and eight hours at night.
