Boston Whaler 220 Dauntless

Maximize Utility for the Dollar

Dollar for dollar, the Boston Whaler 220 Dauntless offers a lot of functionality in a fishing/utility boat and it starts at $85,246 MSRP powered by a Mercury 200 XL V6. On Boston Whaler’s website, they have a useful “Build Your Boat” feature that lets you price out the accessories you think you need, such as trim tabs. We always select bow and stern rails for safety plus some other basics and we ended up at $102,000. This is for a boat that’s designed for skinny water fishing, bays and sounds and offshore in the right weather. Our test video will give a far better idea of what the package contains. More...

Absolute Navetta 48

Keeping a Flybridge Boat Looking Sleek

The Absolute Navetta 48’s flying bridge helm was carefully designed to have low visual top hamper, as can be seen in the inset image. To do that, her designers have carefully placed a dark-colored wind deflector around the forward part of the helm. This is a technique often used by European designers, as the eye tends not to focus on that part of the boat because, of course, black doesn’t reflect nearly as much light as white does. The result is a flybridge that looks low and sleek but as seen in the large image, there is quite a lot of equipment, seating and functionality on the flying bridge. More...

Cruisers Yachts 42 GLS

Bashing Through 4' – 6' Seas

On our test day for the Cruisers Yachts 42 GLS, we had 4’ to 6’ (1.21 – 1.82 m) seas, so there was no way we could get the normal calm-water conditions where we like to test for speed and fuel consumption. That’s the bad news. The good news is that we got to see how she handles and rides in 4’ to 6’ seas, which is actually what most people care about. She was powered by triple supercharged 2.6-liter Mercury 400s. More...

Explore Montauk

A Big Game Fishing Destination

Quite possibly the most famous town on the eastern end of New York’s Long Island, Montauk is a popular destination for cruisers and especially fishermen. The port likes to call itself the Sportfishing Capital of the World. Indeed, giant tuna and marlin are caught in its offshore waters. The town was also the home port for Capt. Frank Mundus, known as “Sharkman,” for many years because he specialized in taking people out to catch great whites. But there is more to Montauk than bad sharks. More...

Gelcoat Care and Repair

A thin layer of gelcoat covers the surface of any fiberglass boat and it needs a lot more care than the new boat salesperson probably mentioned. Gelcoat oxidizes and is susceptible to UV degradation, making matters worse. If you’ve ever seen a chalky-white hull of an older fiberglass boat, you’ll know what we mean. Happily, there are several solutions to this problem. More...

Only Premium Boats 8 Happy Members

SBC has only premium boats and happy members. Happy because they can use the club’s expensive new boats almost any time they want – including full days on weekends. Low-priced boat clubs not only have cheap boats, they also load up their boats with 10-13 members, which is why they are so low-priced. That’s not SBC’s modus operandi. We are a division of BoatTEST and we believe in offering quality, well-equipped boats that can go 50 miles offshore safely and up and down the coast on overnight cruises. Affordable annual memberships in boats ranging from 27’ to 33’ (8.2 m to 10 m) are now available in St. Petersburg and Bradenton, Fla. Check them out at SovereignBoatClub.com or call 727-200-3474.
