Chaparral 300 OSX:
New Premium Boat for All Reasons
The asymmetrical design of the new Chaparral 300 OSX combines a center console helm with the comforts of an upscale dual console bowrider. By so doing, Chaparral has created a boat that should be compared to not only other conventional bowriders but also dual consoles that are built by traditional fishboat builders. The triple-wide bolstered helm seat assembly can pivot to face the L-shaped seating in the cockpit for social hour or can have an optional wet bar behind it. Below decks is a compartment that can sleep two and has a slide-out head. 12-V A/C is optional. The Vista View lounge aft changes configuration from seating to sun lounge at the touch of a button and the dive door on the starboard side of the cockpit is something few sportboats have. The standard fiberglass hardtop has a sunroof and can be fitted with cruising canvas for three-season use. There is a lot to like in this premium vessel, and Chaparral is putting dual console brands on notice. See the full test here...

Riviera 445 SUV:
Cruise, Entertain, Dive or Fish
The Riviera 445 SUV helm is to port and the salon/dining banquette wraps around to starboard, allowing the owner/operator to remain part of the conversation while underway. The companion seat will be appreciated by cruising couples. A joystick control on the port side of the dash and a sliding window give the captain a good view while docking port-side, but an optional second joystick in the cockpit can be placed to starboard. The Garmin Glass Bridge MFD shown in the photo is an option most will probably check, while CZone digital monitoring and switching is standard. More...

Alumacraft Competitor 205:
Digital Outboard w/Tiller Control
Those who troll for walleyes on big northern lakes often prefer tiller control for their outboard because it puts them just ahead of the transom where access to the rods is easiest. Evinrude’s new E-TEC G2 115 H.O. Digital Tiller model is a perfect fit for these users, providing a combination of dependability and functionality along with the advantages of fly-by-wire control. Throttle control is digital and can be adjusted at the touch of a button in 50 rpm increments to achieve the perfect trolling speed. An LED function light on the steering handle helps the operator keep tabs on all engine functions as well as potential problems. The steering handle adjusts independently of the motor’s trim position. The control is angled to best suit either left- or right-hand operation and is readily swapped to the opposite side for different operators. More...

Cruisers Yachts 60 Fly:
Engineered for the Owner/Operator
The details shown in the image above are rarely thought about – until something doesn’t work. Then there is a scramble on any boat to find the fix. The folks at Cruisers Yachts know that, and as a result make details like breakers and operational switches well-labeled and intuitive. The 60 Fly has a standard Seakeeper 9 gyro stabilizer and a joystick control linked to the twin Volvo Penta IPS950s from the main deck, the flying bridge and from the aft deck. The standard Raymarine electronics link with tablets and smartphones to allow system monitoring from anywhere on the yacht. In virtually all ways, the 60 Fly is user friendly. More...

How to Harness Tech on
Your Boat
Good all-around visibility from the helm is a big factor in
boat safety.
In today's world, almost everything we do or get involved in is governed by the technology of one sort or another. When we look at our boats, technology is increasingly taking over where we used to rely on seamanship to find solutions. We are relying more and more on technology to keep us and the boat going.
