Outboard power enhances the versatility of the 25’5” (7.75 m) day boat.

Cobalt Boats has introduced the R6, an outboard-powered bowrider that measures 25’5” (7.75 m) long and is rated to accommodate up to 14 passengers. She has Cobalt’s tall hullsides that create more security and depth in the cockpit and bow, plus a private compartment with a portable head in the port console. A porcelain upgrade is available.

Feature Packed

Cobalt’s patented swim step is built into the full-beam platform that spans the stern between the transom and the outboard that is mounted on the trailing edge. The platform can be finished in foam decking to make it softer under foot. Aft facing lounges are a great place to relax or to sit with a fishing pole waiting for a bite.

The swim platform has plenty of space to pass between the motor and the transom.

The aft-facing lounges have adjustable backrests to create more versatile seating options.

This photo gives a good idea of how many people the swim platform can accommodate and the raised vantage point means older sister can keep an eye on the action.

For storage, the aft lounges lift up on twin stainless-steel gas struts to access large compartments.

At the helm, the captain’s chair swivels and adjusts fore and aft and has a foldup bolster. The helm has twin Garmin 7” (17.78 cm) touchscreen displays in a black glass arrangement that gives the dash an upscale feel. It also has a depth and water temperature package and given the R6’s ability to get into shallow water with the outboard, a depth gauge is a smart idea.

Entertainment is provided by a 6-speaker Bluetooth compatible AM/FM stereo with an iPod/USB/Mp3 port. Owners can choose among a variety of upgrades. A dash-mounted smart phone cradle has wireless charging. In true Cobalt fashion, there’s even user-programmable LED interior lighting.

The help chair has wraparound bolsters that support the captain plus a fold-up bolster.

The helm has twin multifunction displays in a glass-dash display.

Buyers can choose among a single outboard  ranging from 250 hp to 350 hp from Yamaha or Mercury in a choice of colors and regardless of the selection, the boat is equipped with power-assisted steering.

The port console compartment looks deep enough for an adult to comfortable sit and answer nature’s call.

Throughout the boat, the seats are finished in new Fresco Chil vinyl on the darker colors. Cobalt says it provides reductions in surface temperatures up to 20 degrees on sunny days. The carpet is a 40-ounce snap-in with neoprene backing. A portable 34-quart (32.18-liter) cooler stows in a dedicated compartment. Throughout the boat, there are USB ports and there’s a 3.5-gallon (13.25-liter) trash receptacle.

Even on a hot sunny day, the stern seats will stay cool thanks to special vinyl upholstery.

Construction

Cobalt builds the R6 with eight layers of overlapping fiberglass in the bottom that doubles to 16 at the keel. They are reinforced with Kevlar and further strengthened with Spraycore. To maintain the highest quality gloss finish for which Cobalt is known, the molds are hand waxed after every other part is removed. Then the mold is reworked after every 10 parts. Cobalt wouldn’t provide specifics but said that the company leaves its parts in the mold longer than the accepted industry standard. No wood is used anywhere in the boat. The decks are polypropylene structural composite material, while the stringers are all fiberglass bonded in place with a methacrylate adhesive. The transom is also composite.

Multiple layers of composite material give the R6 a strong, solid feel.
