Designed and Equipped for Swimming

On the new Cruisers Yachts 42 GLS, the swim platform extends past the triple outboards on each side. This is pretty much the norm these days, but Cruisers makes the boat much safer for swimming by added boarding ladders under each side. That means no one has to swim past the propellers to get to a ladder. Forward of the engines, the splashwell is designed for the outboards to be able to tilt all the way out of the water. We’ve raved about the flying bridge and aft-deck space on the Monte Carlo 66. Well, she’s pretty inviting below, too. Our test boat had the three-stateroom layout with a full-beam master. Highlights include a sofa to starboard and large circular hullside windows that have come to define the brand. The lounge lets an owning couple relax in private luxury. As we saw throughout the yacht, there’s outstanding headroom at 6’5” (1.96 m). For many center consoles owners, 30’ to 34’ (9.14 m to 10.36 m) is something of a size sweet spot. She’s big enough to head offshore capably, especially with her proven SeaV2® hull, but not so big as to make it difficult to find rack storage. Add a pair of outboards, which makes her less expensive to operate than larger models, and you are ready for adventure. Nearly every outboard company offers 100/115 engines and 150-hp outboards. But only Honda and Suzuki split the difference: Honda has a 135 and Suzuki has a 140-hp outboard. At a weight of 394 lbs. (178.72 kg), the Suzuki 140 could have a better power-to-weight ratio and the lowest gear ratio of virtually any outboard on the market.
