New E’dyn Electric Boat Motors
At last summer’s e-regatta in Venice, which featured boats powered by electric engines, one of the big winners was E'dyn 5.2, a boat powered by an E’dyn 1120 elecric outboard. E’dyn is an abbreviation of “electric dynamic nautics.” The company is a brand of the Podkrižnik family company that has been developing alternative power systems for various industries around the world for its headquarters in northern Slovenia.
E’dyn offers inboard and outboard engines. They are built from aluminum with modular construction for easier installation and they have closed-loop cooling. They are powered by lithium ion batteries that can be tied together.
The Motors
E’dyn’ Free Time Series of outboards are led by the 1120, the company’s most popular engine. It makes 11kW (15 hp) and the company says it’s lighter than others in class. The 2035 produces 20kW (27 hp) at 2400 rpm and 96 volts. It has power trim.
The Simplicity Series consists of three portable motors ranging from 2.8 kW (3.75 hp) to 6.5 kW (8.7 hp).
The Heavy Duty Series can be built as a pod or sail drive and has the motor in a submersed housing. The 1018 outboard makes 10 kW at 1000 rpm and 48 volts and e’Dyn says it is suitable for sailboats and heavier vessels like taxis and workboats. In addition to the motor, it has a steering arm, a holding tube. The Sail series is available from 1.6 kW (2.1 hp) to 10 kW in a submersible version.
Inboard motors range from 10 kW to 180 kW (241 hp) and are installed beneath the deck. They can connect to solar cells or an electric generator for sports, work or heavier commercial applications. They can link to a rotating Z drive or inboard shaft.
The company offers its own lithium-ion battery backs, chargers and control units among other products.
