ePropulsion, a manufacturer of electric marine engines, recently revealed its 2021 model year product lineup including electric boat motors with hydrogeneration capabilities, 48-volt systems, safety wristbands and more. Also new are a more ergonomic tiller handle and direct-drive brushless motors for improved performance and greater noise reduction.
Charge While Running
In what the manufacturer is calling “a first” for electric outboards is hydrogeneration capability. Whether it’s being used as an auxiliary motor for daysailers or to power a tender, the motor can charge the battery while underway running at speeds between 4 and 10 knots.
Additionally, all the motors in the ePropulsion line are built with a 48-volt architecture, which allows for more flexibility. The company’s E-Series batteries are designed to deliver up to 3,000 charging cycles and the Spirit battery is the first floating model on the market.
Safer Kill Switch
Offering an evolution in the emergency shutoff lanyard, ePropulsion has introduced the Evo Series of safety wristbands that work off wireless technology.
Finally, the Evo Tiller is compatible with most ePropulsion electric motors. It’s designed to be more comfortable, responsive and adaptive for a variety of boating applications. It has an integrated display that shows power, voltage, remaining runtime and battery level and it’s backlit for nighttime use.
A Closer Look
ePropulsion has five years of experience selling its Spirit 1.0, Navy 3.0 and Navy 6.0. The Spirit is a 3-hp motor available in tiller or remote control. It’s the company’s best seller and features an integrated battery and folding tiller handle.
The Navy Evo is a light-duty motor available in 6 and 9.9 hp. New for this year, the Navy 6.0 Evo has a brushless direct-drive motor. The Pod Drive Evo is a shaft-free direct-drive pod system available in 3, 6 and 9.9-hp offerings. The Pod Drive 1.0 is the smallest electric pod and could be a good fit in 20’ daysailers. The 9.9-hp Pod Drive 6.0 Evo is new and is being suggested as a replacement for internal combustion outboards on sailboats. Folding props are available on request.
