Formula 500 SSC
Luxury Crossover Yacht w/Quad 600s
Initial publicity on the new Formula 500 SSC was centered on her quad V12 outboards, but there is much more to this boat than 2,400 horses on the stern. Her ride and handling can only be achieved with a displacement of nearly 50,000 lbs. (22,727 kg) and bottom by John Adams who broke the code on hull shape years ago. We got one of the first opportunities to test and thoroughly inspect the Formula 500 SSC, so take a look at Capt. Steve’s report to get a good feel for this noteworthy boat. We tested her in offshore conditions with 33” (83.82 cm) prop sets intended to be a good compromise between top speed and cruising-range fuel efficiency. We recorded a top speed of 66.4 mph at 6400 rpm and we noted best cruise at 5000 rpm, where she got .4 mpg and a range of 249 statute miles, with a 10% fuel reserve. More...
Outer Reef 700
Stoutly Built LRC
At 8 knots, the Outer Reef 700 has a range of 2,200 nautical miles, so at some point, it’s likely that she’s going to encounter some rough conditions. She’s built to handle it with a minimum of stress to the vessel because the major part of her outer skin is composed of just three different moldings – the hull, deck and flying bridge. Mako 334 CC
Power Choices Enhance Utility
The Mako 334 CC comes standard with twin 350-hp Mercury Verado outboards. She can be upgraded to a total of 1,200 hp. For our test, Mako put triple 350s on the stern and we hit a top speed of 64.4 mph, which should make her competitive in a tournament. At a more sedate speed of 29.8 mph at 3000 rpm, she has a range of 403 miles, which means she can cover some serious ground.
