Fountaine-Pajot MY 40:

Ready to Party, Ready to Cruise

fountainepajot_my40_022420.jpg

Fountaine-Pajot MY 40

A party might break out at any time on the broad aft deck of the Fountaine-Pajot MY 40, which takes full advantage of this power cat’s 19’10” (5.96 m) beam to provide entertainment and accommodation areas. There’s seating here for eight or more, with large storage areas underneath. The curving teak stairs go up to the flying bridge, which adds another 20 square yards (16 sq. m) for al fresco entertaining. A power shade behind the transom settee combines with the full overhead to provide complete shade for this area as needed. The hydraulic swim platform, accessed via stairs on either side, is another standard feature in this sea-kindly cruiser, which was developed by naval architect Daniel Andrieux with interior design by PierAngelo Andreani. Below, she has three staterooms and two heads. More...

Fairline Targa 65 GT:

Open & Airy Alberto Mancini Design

fairline_targa-65-gt_030220.jpg

Fairline Targa 65 GT

The striking exterior of the Fairline Targa 65 GT is designed by Italian superyacht designer Alberto Mancini. It combines sweeping modernistic lines of the roof and transom with huge sculpted windows in the hullsides, assuring an open and airy feel both above deck and below. The large lounging area forward can easily seat a dozen or more, and an available Bimini provides shade. The transom includes an unusual fold out “rumble seat” overlooking a multi-level swimming area and power swim platform. The platform also includes fittings to secure a dinghy. Below decks she has an amidships master, a VIP at the bow and two additional guest rooms, plus space for two crew aft. More...

Monachus Issa 45:

Eclectic Design & Build

monachus_issa-45_030620.jpg

Monachus Issa 45

The Monachus Issa 45 is an interestingly eclectic yacht. Her overall style lines were inspired by Downeasters to some degree, but touches from Italy add a more modern profile. Her bottom design has origins in the U.K., and she’s built in a yard in Croatia. Buyers can specify one, two or three cabins belowdecks. The bow rail is split to allow access when docking bow-in, and passage to and from the bow is secure thanks to side decks with 6” (15.24 cm) tall bulwarks as well as bowrails at a comfortable height. Twin 440-hp Yanmar diesels give her a top speed of 27.2 knots. Best cruise was at 2400 rpm and 16.9 knots, at which her range was 135 NM. She’s capable of extended crossings at low speed: at 600 rpm and 4.5 knots her range is over 1,240 NM. More...

Boston Whaler 210 Montauk:

Upgrade of an Unsinkable Classic CC

bostonwhaler_210montauk_030220.jpg

Boston Whaler 210 Montauk

The new Boston Whaler 210 Montauk is an upgrade of the classic unsinkable center console, with a new running surface as well as more seating and storage. The bow has a sharp entry, flaring quickly to the deckboat-width topsides. Hard chines are upswept and go all the way to the bow peak. The design not only adds seating and fishing space to the interior, but also helps knock down spray in choppy waters and provides added buoyancy forward in taller seas. The front casting deck converts to a lounge, with optional chaise type backs available. She has a 16-degree deadrise, a good combination for quick planing and all-around performance. With a 150-hp Mercury FourStroke turning a 16” (40.64 cm) pitch propeller she planed in 3.6 seconds and had a top speed of 40.1 mph. She comes standard with a galvanized tandem axle trailer. More...

Cruisers Yachts 338 OB:

Upscale Bowrider w/Twin 350 Mercury Verados

cruisers_338ob_030220.jpg

Cruisers Yachts 338 OB

The Cruisers Yachts 338 OB adds the performance of outboard power to the style and comfort of this upscale bowrider. The model in the photo is the South Beach Edition, with the gleaming black gelcoat and tower a perfect match for the black cowls of the twin Mercury 350s. The plush ochre upholstery is also standard on the South Beach model. The notched swim platform with the engine rigging underneath maintains the full function of the swim platform as well as the clean lines. She also manages to tuck accommodations for two to overnight below, with a convertible twin berth, standup head, mini-galley, TV and optional A/C. Performance was strong in our tests, with the 21.5-degree deadrise hull getting on plane in 4.0 seconds, very quick considering her 13,500-lb (6,124 kg) test weight, and reaching a top speed of 53.8 mph. Boating Tips

What You Need to Know

About Waves

waves_030220.jpg

The ocean's surface tells a story, but not the full one. Learning how to read the elements and understanding concepts such as wave celerity will always prove useful at sea.

It always surprises us how little many boaters know about the environment in which they operate. To many, the sea is just a pattern of regular waves that cause the boat to do a bit of rock and roll. Both the wind and the waves in any place at sea are a mixture of high and low, weak and strong, and nothing is really settled. It pays to spend some time studying the sea and getting to understand it. More...
