Hatteras GT65 Carolina:

Hardcore Bluewater Sportfisher

Loaded with Creature Comforts

Hatteras GT65 Carolina

Many hardcore bluewater sportfishing machines are a bit thin on creature comforts because they are not really intended to be used for cruising. But true convertibles – and the new Hatteras GT65 is one – more are also designed for cruising functionality and comfort. She’s an upgrade of the company’s GT63, with a sleeker profile and a larger cockpit. Check out the available finishes in the salon in the photo, complete with a three-stool bar separating the entertainment area from the full galley. Belowdecks, four staterooms and three heads take advantage of the boat’s additional volume. She rides on a resin-infused solid glass hull, with fuel tanks molded in and all the machinery mounted as low as possible to keep her CG down and to reduce roll at rolling speed. Because of this low CG, and because she is intended to be used in rough conditions, she is much better prepared to cruise anywhere than are most motoryachts. More...

BoatTEST’s “A Team” At Work

a-team.jpg

Videographer/video editor Kurt Rotter (L) and Capt. Steve take a moment during a test of the Monte Carlo 52.

For 20 years, BoatTEST has set the standard for testing, producing informative product videos, and writing in-depth Captain’s Reports that tell prospective buyers nearly everything they need to know about the boats reviewed. In the process, the two men seen above do an excellent job of educating boaters about what they should look for in a boat that they are going to spend tens of thousands of dollars for, if not millions. To do the job right takes time. We do not turnout sausage. That is why 88% of BoatTEST members say that we are the most influential source available in helping them make a buying decision. We have tested over 3,000 tests over the years – all designed to help consumers get the information needed in words and video. (Psst. – This picture was taken on Kurt’s birthday last week. He says he’s 39, but he’s been shooting our videos right from the beginning. Go figure.)

Aviara AV36:

Lux-Class Euro Dayboat Built in America

aviara_av36_032320.png

Aviara AV36

The Aviara AV36 is a luxury-class bowrider in the popular Euro-dayboat style. The large hardtop with integrated speakers and lights is standard, as is the SeaDek deck covering, extending to provide a non-slip surface on the swim platform. She’s one of the few dayboats we’ve seen with a dedicated wine chiller, and even a couple of chilled drink holders adjacent the helm. Though she’s a bowrider-type dayboat, there’s also a lounge that converts to a berth in the compact cabin, as well as a head with 5’6” (1.68 m) headroom. The test boat, powered with three 300-hp Mercury Verados, had a top speed of 55.8 mph. More...

Everglades 273CC:

Well-Equipped Premium CC w/51.5 MPH WOT

everglade_273cc_032320.jpg

Everglades 273CC

The Everglades 273CC is a premium-class center console that comes loaded with standard features that are options on most boats. She has a through-the-stem stainless-steel anchor with windlass up front. The hardtop with rocket launchers, stereo speakers and LED lights is also included. The powder-coated aluminum supports for the top are built right into the console, increasing passage space from bow to stern and eliminating line snags. A patented power windshield provides ventilation when desired and includes a standard stainless-steel wiper. She has plenty of depth and flair for offshore operation. The 20-degree deadrise smooths the ride in a chop. Top speed with twin 250 Yamahas was 51.5 mph. More...

Monte Carlo Yachts:

Part #2: Modern Construction

mcy-part-two.png

Monte Carlo Yachts’ modular construction of the accommodations seen here from the outside looking in is one of the important secrets of its build.

Because Monte Carlo Yachts is one of the newest builders of premium motoryachts, its factory was designed from scratch to accommodate state of the art construction practices pioneered in the aerospace and automobile industry. Since the raw materials and components of all motoryachts are pretty much the same, the founders of MCY (the Beneteau Group) knew the only way to produce a more price-competitive product was to take unproductive manhours out of the build process. If you have seen videos or pictures of a vast, empty motoryacht hull with workers climbing up and down ladders to install bulkheads, equipment and flooring, then you know what we mean. All of the hours of shop floor personnel climbing in and out of hulls, hopping around stringers, and squeezing into tight spaces to install plumbing adds up to thousands of hours of wasted time – that is built into the price of the boat. Find out how MCY eliminates that cost. More...
