Ocean Alexander 36L

Run Silent, Run Far

Ocean Alexander’s 36L measures 116’6” (35.5 m) and is designed with the appointments and luxuries one would expect to find in a megayacht measuring up to 30’ (9.14 m) longer. Some of these like the jacuzzi/observation deck are easy to see. But luxury and comfort are often provided by the unseen. Ocean Alexander goes to great lengths to reduce the transfer of sound and vibration to living areas by using multiple insulation barriers including reflective, absorptive and dampening materials plus air pockets and flexible and isolation mounts. Cruisers Yachts 46 Cantius

Express Yacht w/Stand-up Helm

Regular readers know that we at BoatTEST think that the skipper of any express cruiser ought to be able to stand up at the helm and be able to see forward without having to duck, open the overhead hatch to peer out or simply to staying put. The Cruisers Yachts 46 Cantius is an express that has sporty, sleek lines, yet the captain has full standing headroom. Cruisers Yachts are built in northern Wisconsin, the American home of beer and braut, so the company designs its boats with American ergonomics in mind. The 46 is also built for both entertaining and serious cruising. She’s much more than a day boat and she is in demand. The company’s sales manager tells us that the next production slot does not open until next spring, so now’s the time to get a position reserved. More...

Chris-Craft Launch 31 GT

Classic Lines w/Space for a Crowd

The Chris-Craft Launch 31 GT that’s rated for 10 passengers is as plush and finely built as any boat in class, and is better than most. But, of course, they’re sold out for quite some time. Recently, the company's sales manager said that boat dealers should be offering a discount for people who put a deposit down now.  He points out that by ordering in advance, an owner can have exactly the options wanted, and not have to take and pay for options selected in advance by the dealer. That also allows buyers to get the colors and personalization wanted. When paying the kind of money boats cost these days, that seems like a good approach to us. More...

Tahoe 2150

Smooth-Handling Deck Boat

There are other entry-level deckboats and runabouts sold at an attractive price, but look closely and the comfort and ride features of the Tahoe 2150 become apparent. Because her intended mission is to carry a large party, sometimes a boat like the Tahoe 2150 is designed with more of a focus on passenger capacity than on performance. But when the parent company also happens to build tournament-leading bass boats like Nitro, the 2150 is bound to have some good performance traits. With a single 225-hp Mercury outboard, our test boat hit 51.1 mph and exhibited the agility and decent ride because of its bottom shape. More...
