The 645 SUV came to be as a response to requests from the company’s dealers and customers for a large motoryacht that focuses on single-level entertaining and living, according to Riviera owner Rodney Longhurst. A customer who owned a 575 SUV told Longhurst, “I’m really happy with my 575, but give me a call if you ever do an SUV version of the 64 SMY.” Once he learned the company was moving forward with the 645 SUV, the customer ordered one sight-unseen. Trailerable express cruisers are becoming an endangered species – there are now only a few models on the market made by a couple of companies. We think that’s unfortunate because they are a practical and economical way to go cruising. Because they are trailerable – distant cruising grounds can be enjoyed with a minimum of time and fuel expense.
Regal’s 26 XO has a beam of 8’6” (2.59 m), which is an important dimension that means she doesn’t need a permit to be trailered. When powered by a 300-hp Yamaha outboard, her dry weight is estimated at 6,100 lbs. (2,767 kg), so she can be towed by a full-sized and some mid-sized pickups or SUVs.
