New Wellcraft 355: A New Direction
After more than six decades of building boats, Wellcraft has unveiled a new model and a new approach with the 355. The company says it is broadening its offerings with the new Euro-style boat that’s built for adventures. She has an enclosed pilothouse and forward-raked windshield that gives her a Scandinavian flair.
“There is a new breed of boaters not satisfied with the typical boating lifestyle,” said Nick Harvey, brand director for Wellcraft, in a statement. “They want to see the world from a different perspective. Instead of gazing offshore, they shove off and never look back.”
Dream Team
For the 355’s design, Wellcraft partnered with Michael Peters Yacht Design, Pawel Denert and interior designer Camillo Garroni to create what the company calls a “fast and seaworthy American outboard commuter.” She can be powered by up triple Mercury or Yamaha outboards totaling 1,050 hp the reportedly push her to a top speed exceeding 60 mph.
All-Weather Cruising
The 355’s Enclosed pilothouse lets boaters enjoy running at high speed in less-than-ideal conditions. It has a fully equipped galley and seating for five. A sliding door adjacent to the helm provides access to the deck and bow lounging area. It’s designed to accommodate three sun bathers and there’s more space on a bench seat.
The pilothouse opens to the aft cockpit with a top-hinged window plus an entry door. On each side of the cockpit, there are hullside doors that make facilitate boarding or climbing aboard after a swim.
Finally, step down into the cabin and find a bow cabin with a full-sized berth and an en suite head with a separate shower. Total sleeping capacity is four.
