Boston Whaler 250 Dauntless

New and Improved

Virtually everything about the new 2022 Boston Whaler 250 Dauntless is new except the model designation. 25’ (7.62 m) is a comfortable place to be so the engineers at Whaler saw no reason to change that. Most important is her new bottom design with the deadrise increasing from 16 degrees at the transom to 18 degrees, together with a sharpened forefoot that allows her to cut through chop and not pound at reasonable speeds. Our test boat weighed 5,214 lbs. (2,365 kg) and was powered by a 300-hp Mercury V8 outboard. We hit a top speed of 47.3 mph at 5600 rpm and we recorded best cruise at 4000 rpm where she ran 33.2 mph and had a range of 253 statute miles. As with all Whalers, she floats level if swamped. Denison Yachting Scores

Alpha Custom Yachts in N.A.

The 102’ (31.2 m) Spritz is the smallest vessel in Alpha Custom Yachts’ line.

On Wednesday, Alpha Custom Yachts (ACY) named Denison Yachting as the brand’s exclusive dealer in North America. “We consider Denison not only to be a leader in the brokerage community but also accustomed to selling new yachts,” said Roberto Abourmrad, principal in ACY. Denison has 22 offices scattered around the U.S. and Denison’s David Johnson will handle ACY sales in North America. ACY is a relatively new company that is owned by two Mexican brothers who have been active in yachting and the boat business for more than 30 years. They have assembled what we think is a remarkable team from concept to market. Read all about it...

Check Out These Crew Quarters

We do not focus enough on crew quarters, an omission we are correcting today. First-class crew quarters show an owner’s respect for the crew and concern for its comfort. It’s amazing how many owners choose to go in this direction rather than the old system only providing the bare essentials. An added benefit on a boat this size is that owner/operators can turn crew quarters into a fourth stateroom without the embarrassment of relegating a friend to the underworld. Inside, we found a granite table, solid teak throughout and sliding pocket doors that open to a double bunk. If the crew quarters are this nice, imagine what the master stateroom looks like. Talos Lightning-Strike Detector

Lightning is visible from 25 miles, or more, away. Thunder can be heard from 10 miles away. Lightning-produced ozone can be smelled from 3 miles or so away. So, when out for a day of fun with the family, if you see, hear or smell lightning, do you turn tail, run and ruin an outing or do you pray it goes elsewhere? How many times have you bagged a trip because of lightning and it turned out the storm went the other way? Now, an ingenious $139 device detects lightning as far as 25 miles away, 16 miles away and 6 miles away, all with a different color warning. Track if it is coming or going. We think every boat should have one. More...
