North Pacific Yachts 49’ Euro Pilothouse

LRC w/a Comfortable Bridge

The North Pacific Yachts 49’ Euro Pilothouse has a range of more than 2,300 nautical miles at 7.5 knots according to our tests, with a 10% fuel reserve. Power was provided by a single Cummins 600-hp diesel and fuel was drawn from a 920-gallon (3,482 L) tank. Twin 335-hp Cummins are also available so for those who want redundancy, this may be the preferred option. We must admit to being curious if the boat could be powered by twin 600-hp diesels because some of our tests indicate that the total fuel consumption of two engines loping might be less than a single working hard. There are a couple of things we like about the flying bridge seen above – the double Stidd seat for the skipper’s companion and faux teak on the deck that will provide better footing when gelcoated fiberglass is wet. Intrepid 475 Panacea

Built to Order by Experts

For those who want to keep up with what Intrepid CEO Ken Clinton is doing, we suggest that you become one of his Facebook followers, as he makes almost daily posts. His videos are always entertaining and often instructive about his boats. One of our favorites is the Intrepid 475 Panacea with a 13’8” (4.17 m) of beam and plenty of space for personalization in her cockpit for cruising, fighting, SCUBA diving or just high speed entertaining. It was one of the first large cruising/crossover boats powered by outboards and was ahead of its time. Our test of the model was done some years ago when she was powered by quad Yamaha 425s but now triple Mercury 600s are an option. More...

Formula 240 Bowrider

Luxury Boat at a Premium Price

The 240 Bowrider is the smallest boat Formula builds and it is most likely among the most expensive boats in class and that’s reflected in her build quality, materials and warranty. She’s built with the same construction techniques used on larger Formulas and is likely the only 24’ (7.32 m) bowrider finished in an optional (but reasonably priced) polyurethane paint covered in a clear coat. This keeps the boat looking like new for 10 years or so and Formulas have a reputation for commanding a good price on the used-boat market. More...

A Properly Run Vessel Starts with

Engine-Room Cleanliness

Safety Tips

When Common Sense Isn't So Common

Trailering a boat down the highway when the vessel is properly mounted and tied down is a no-brainer. But for the owners of boats in this video slide show, we discover haste makes waste. When preparing a boat for a cruise on I-95, the old saying, “I’m going slow because I’m in a hurry” is the first rule to remember. Roll 'em...
