All OXE 300-hp diesel outboards will carry the BMW logo.

OXE Marine, which makes diesel outboards, has partnered with BMW. The two companies have agreed to co-brand the OXE300 outboard to further develop the company’s marketing and sales strategy. The two companies have also entered into a preliminary development agreement with the BMW Group to carry out a study of its 2.0-liter, 4-cylinder turbo diesel engine for marine use.

New Model

Currently, the OXE200 is being built on General Motors’ 2-liter, 4-cylinder turbo diesel. The outboard produces 200 hp at the propeller while creating 415 Nm (306.09 ft-lbs.) of torque at the crankshaft. The company said the powerhead is reaching its end of life and OXE Marine has been evaluating options for the next generation of the OXE200. The company says it has a sufficient number of powerheads for 2021 production.

OXE Marine and BMW are exploring the possibility of marinizing the aforementioned 2.0-liter engine and has signed a preliminary development agreement to assess whether the marinized 2-liter engine could make the required power and torque.

The current OXE200 outboard has a GM powerhead.

The start of production of the OXE200 will be confirmed after the companies enter into a supply and development agreement. OXE Marine has also set targets for improvements to meet the demands of commercial and government customers.

Co-Branding

After OXE Marine and BMW collaborated on the marinization of the auto maker’s 3.0-liter, 6-cylinder twin-turbo for use in OXE300s, both companies have agreed to co-brand the OXE300. The purpose of the partnership is to develop the overall sales and marketing initiatives with the focus on the premium quality aspects of the product. The BMW logo and the caption “In cooperation with BMW” will be displayed on the side and rear of the engine cowling and in marketing materials.

OXE outboards are expected to be used primarily in commercial and government applications.

“I am really pleased of our collaboration with the BMW Group with respect to the OXE300 Bison project,” said Myron Mahendra, CEO of OXE Marine AB. “They have set the example of an ideal collaboration partner, providing all the necessary resources and support in making not only the development of the product a success but also assisting with production standards and promoting the product from a sales and marketing standpoint.”

Added Uwe Breitweg, BMW vice president of powertrain systems business customers, “OXE Marine offers the BMW Group a chance to re-enter the marine business after several years of absence. We therefore decided to take up the challenge and support this outstanding development project transforming a BMW 6-cylinder automotive diesel into an outboard engine.”
